Edinburgh Festival Fringe (LGBTQ+ programming)
About This Event
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is a massive open-access arts festival that's been going strong since 1947. Its LGBTQ+ offerings are surprisingly extensive, rivaling those of dedicated queer festivals. Every August, the city is packed with thousands of acts, including a substantial lineup of queer comedy, drag, cabaret, and theatre.
You'll need to sift through the vast program to find the queer highlights. The Fringe's website lists every show, but it's easier to consult queer-focused publications like PinkNews and Flicker Magazine, which publish annual guides to the best LGBTQ+ acts. Mixed bills like The Queer Comedy Club's Best of the Queer Fringe are also a great way to discover new talent in one night.
Late nights often end at CC Blooms or other bars on Leith Walk. Accommodation books up fast, so it's a good idea to reserve a bed months in advance - August prices are steep.
The 2026 Fringe took place from 7 to 31 August, with 4,232 shows across 306 venues, and 2,805,395 tickets issued, an 8% increase from 2025. The Fringe Society has already set the 2027 dates: 6 to 30 August.
