About the event

Join Friend of Dorothy for an evening with Matt Cain MBE, where every penny of ticket revenue will be donated to Not A Phase to support their crucial work with trans and gender-diverse adults across the UK.
Author, broadcaster, and former Editor-in-Chief of Attitude. Awarded an MBE for services to LGBTQ+ culture, he is also the man who crowdfunded The Madonna of Bolton in just seven days after publishers rejected it for being “too gay.”
Matt joins us to celebrate his brand-new novel, The Castle of Stories — the first title from Pansy, a queer independent publisher he founded with his husband — and to reflect on his extraordinary life and career.
James Wallis will join Matt for a live interview covering a range of topics, including Matt's writing and broadcasting career, his time at Attitude, his advocacy for queer stories, and his MBE. The interview will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience.
Afterwards, join everyone for drinks, a book signing, and a proper Friend of Dorothy social. There will also be a pop-up bookshop on site where you can pick up a copy and have it signed by Matt.
