After stops in Rome, Vienna, New York, and a feature in Interview magazine, Kiernan Francis’ kaleidoscopic portrait of big dreams in NYC makes its UK debut at Transmissions.

Going far beyond the nightlife trappings we’ve come to expect from queer cinema, Backseat of the Couch (2024) is a remarkably expansive ode to the underground, the bag chasers, the dolls, and the ones still figuring it out that glides from mornings after to nights before, from acting classes to hookups infront of housemates.
With a DIY foundation and shades of Gus Van Sant, Harmony Korine, and Gregg Araki, it felt only right to open the night with a rare showing of Araki’s manic unaired MTV pilot This Is How The World Ends (2000).

Come for the candy rich visuals and soundtrack packed with Midwest Emo and fresh Hyperpop, and stay for a film that feels like so much more than audiences are asked to accept from contemporary portrayals of city life.
