Billings is a practical city rather than a tourist destination in itself — useful as a base for Yellowstone, Little Bighorn Battlefield (1 hour east), or Beartooth Highway. Downtown Billings has improved significantly in recent years with restaurants and bars. The Rimrocks (sandstone cliffs above the city) offer good hiking with city views.
