Chicago has a strong gay scene centred on Boystown (officially "Northalsted") in the Lakeview neighbourhood, and a sauna circuit that's well-established by American standards.
Man's Country Chicago
For many years the largest gay bathhouse in Chicago — a multi-floor facility in Andersonville with steam room, sauna, pool, gym, private rooms, and extensive social areas. One of the oldest continuously operating gay saunas in the US. Check current status before visiting as long-running venues occasionally undergo changes.
Steamworks Chicago
Part of the national Steamworks chain — in Boystown, within walking distance of the bar strip. Steam room, dry sauna, jacuzzi, gym, private rooms, locker room facilities. Open 24/7. One of the most conveniently located saunas relative to the gay nightlife district.
Chicago Boystown
Halsted Street between Belmont and Grace is the spine of Boystown — one of the most visible LGBTQ+ neighbourhoods in the US, with rainbow pylons lining the street. Bars include Sidetrack (large video bar), Berlin (indie/alternative club), Roscoe's Tavern, and Charlie's Chicago (country bar with dance floor). The neighbourhood is densely packed and genuinely social.
