Guide · Palm Springs

Palm Springs operates differently from most gay sauna cities. The desert climate and culture mean that clothing-optional men's resorts — rather than enclosed indoor bathhouses — are the main social and sexual venues. Most have day passes available.

Vista Grande Resort

Consistently rated the most popular option — recently renovated with three pools, a bathing lagoon, and an 18-person hot tub. Steam room available. Day passes sold. The grounds feel spacious and the crowd is genuinely diverse in age and background. About 1 mile south of downtown in the Warm Sands district. Classic Palm Springs retro aesthetic.

All Worlds Resort

The largest clothing-optional gay men's resort in Palm Springs — sprawling grounds with a 24-hour heated pool, hot tub, outdoor showers, and indoor/outdoor mazes. Day, night, and weekend passes available. Sunday pool parties and weekend BBQs are the regular social events; Pride weekends get very busy. Both party-oriented sections and quiet spaces exist on the property.

CCBC Resort (Cathedral City Boys Club)

3.5 acres in Cathedral City — claims to be the largest clothing-optional gay men's resort in the US. Multiple pools, hot tubs, four indoor playrooms including a military-themed area, and an on-site restaurant/bar (Runway). Monthly CumUnion parties and fetish weekends. Requires a car or rideshare to reach from Palm Springs proper.

CLUB541

A newer dedicated sex club in Palm Springs — evening/nighttime focus, immediately popular since opening. The alternative to resort-based venues for those wanting a more urban club experience.

The Bar Scene — Arenas District

The Arenas Road strip is within walking distance if you're staying nearby — Tool Shed (operating since 1993; leather and Levi crowd, daily happy hour 10am–8pm), Hunters Palm Springs (go-go boys, drag shows), Streetbar (the city's original gay bar, 35+ years), and Chill Bar are all here. Good for bar-hopping before or after the resort scene.

When to Visit

  • November Palm Springs Pride — California's largest free Pride festival south of SF; multi-day event with parade and stages
  • Modernism Week (February) — architecture focus but heavy gay attendance
  • Winter/Spring (November–April) — ideal temperatures (70s–80s°F); summer is 110°F+, which is manageable at the pool resorts but extreme outside
