Madrid has one of the largest gay sauna scenes in Europe — a dozen venues ranging from historic multi-floor establishments to specialist bear venues, most within reach of the Chueca gay district. Busy year-round, it goes into overdrive during Pride in late June/early July.
Sauna Paraíso
One of the historic venues — 1,400 m² near Plaza de España with underground heated pool, two jacuzzis, dry sauna, steam room, 30 private cabins, relaxation area, dungeon zone, cinema, and bar. Open 24 hours on weekends. Entry is around €15, often with a drink included. Mixed crowd, heavy demand during Pride week — arrive early or expect queues.
Sauna Octopus
The bear-specialist — 1,000+ m² north of Chueca with heated pool, two dark rooms, 20 private cabins, movie theatre, dungeon area, and massage services. Body-positive, no-attitude environment. The go-to during MadBear festival (December) when it becomes the social hub for the bear and admirers crowd.
Sauna Beach
In Malasaña — three-level venue with Finnish and Turkish saunas, "Laboratory" play area, jacuzzi, and bar. Connected to the Sleazy Madrid fetish weekends (late April). Sunday crowds are particularly strong here.
Sauna Center
One of Europe's largest by capacity — dance floor, bar, dry sauna, dark room, and 100 private cabins. Central location at Cuesta de Santo Domingo 1. 24-hour operation makes it the practical choice for any time of day or night.
Sauna Lavapiés
The neighbourhood option in Lavapiés — smaller, more affordable, diverse crowd. Dry sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, bar, private cabins, and dark room. Unpretentious atmosphere, popular after community events in the area.
Premium Sauna
Central location at Plaza de Isabel II — multiple play areas, steam, and sauna. Consistently well-rated; the steam and sauna areas have the highest activity levels.
The Calendar
- Madrid Pride (Orgullo) — late June to July 6; parade from Atocha to Plaza de Colón draws up to a million; saunas fill with post-parade visitors
- Sleazy Madrid — late April; fetish weekend with Into the Tank parties at dedicated venues
- MadBear — December; week-long bear festival with brunches, takeovers, and the Mr. Bear contest
- WE Party Circuit — New Year's; 10 nights of house and techno events
