Guide · Manchester

Manchester's gay scene is one of the UK's best outside London — Canal Street in the Gay Village is the anchor, and two solid sauna venues serve the community. The August Pride draws 170,000 people and represents one of the biggest LGBTQ+ events in the UK.

Basement Complex (BASE Sauna)

In a repurposed Victorian mill basement in Ancoats — over 20 years operating, dry sauna, steam room, two jacuzzis, private cabins, and a licensed bar. Open noon–2am daily. Entry £10–15 with midday discounts; up to £25–30 during Pride. Requires Challenge 25 ID verification. The main sauna option in Manchester.

In the Gay Village itself — directly on Sackville Street in the heart of Canal Street's area. Finnish sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, private cabins, video room, lockers, showers, and a café lounge. Open daily noon–11pm, £10–20 entry. The most conveniently located option for those visiting the Village.

Canal Street & the Gay Village

Canal Street has 40+ bars and clubs within a compact area — Via Manchester, The New Union, AXM, Cruz 101, and others. The Village is genuinely one of the most visible LGBTQ+ neighbourhoods in the UK; the street itself is iconic and well-maintained. Manchester Piccadilly station is a 10-minute walk; the Metrolink is closer.

Manchester Pride

August bank holiday weekend — approximately 170,000 people, generating over £14 million in economic impact. One of the largest Pride events in the UK. The Village is packed solid; book accommodation very early for this weekend.
