Vienna has one of the most historically significant gay saunas in Europe in the Kaiserbründl, and a supporting cast of more modern venues across the city. The gay district around Naschmarkt and Kettenbrückengasse is the social hub.
Kaiserbründl Sauna
Over 135 years old — a spectacular Victorian building in Vienna's first district housing a 1,700 m² multi-floor sauna complex. Dry sauna, bio-sauna, steam room, gym, bar, solarium, massage services, and a conservatory. The Spartacus Gay Guide calls it a must for international tourists — and it genuinely is one of the most architecturally remarkable gay venues in Europe. Major events like Orgia Epicurea (November, featuring drag shows, foam parties, and erotic performances) are hosted here.
Römersauna
Vienna's most modern sauna — opened 2014, two floors with steam baths, saunas, massage rooms, private cabins, cruising maze, sling room, dark room, restaurant, and bar. Monthly Römerfest parties and weekly themed events including Hairy Tuesdays and XL Fridays. Close to U4 stations Pilgramgasse and Kettenbrückengasse — right in the gay district.
Apollo City Sauna
25+ years running — two floors with Finnish sauna, dry sauna, steam bath, bio-sauna, swimming pool, bar, private cabins, video lounge, and dark room. Bears, mature men, and their admirers. Discounts after 11pm and for guests under 25.
Sport Sauna
Near Stephansplatz in the first district — sauna, steam room, infrared cabin, private cabins, fitness area, and chill-out zones. Sporty, athletic clientele. Open until 2am with discounts for younger visitors.
Vienna Gay District & Events
The "Gay Mile" centres on Naschmarkt, Mariahilferstraße, and Kettenbrückengasse — bars, clubs, cafés. Why Not (Vienna's oldest gay disco, running since the 1970s), Felixx, Village Bar, Mango Bar, and Kisss are the main bars.
