Berkeley Aquatic Park

Berkeley Aquatic Park is a long, narrow lagoon park running alongside the I-80 freeway in West Berkeley. By day it is a public park used for rowing, walking, and picnics, but its quieter southern end near Bolivar Drive has carried a decades-long reputation as an informal gay cruising spot. As with any outdoor meeting area, discretion and awareness of surroundings matter, and activity here is far less prominent than in past years. The park keeps posted hours and closes at night, parking is limited after dark, and it is patrolled, so visitors should respect the rules and local laws. The United States broadly protects LGBTQ+ people, and Berkeley is among the country's most accepting cities.
