Chez Maman opened at Rue des Grands Carmes 7 in October 1994 as Brussels' first dedicated drag cabaret venue. It is Belgium's oldest continuously operating drag venue — 31 years of unbroken nightly programming — and one of the longest-running dedicated drag cabarets anywhere in Europe. The venue is small: a ground-floor cabaret room with 50 seats, a small bar, and a purpose-built low stage. Programming has run essentially the same format for 31 years — three nightly shows at 22:00, 23:30 and 01:00, six drag performers per show, mixed French-Flemish-English cabaret with substantial audience participation. No cover for the show though a two-drink minimum applies. Chez Maman's significance to Belgian queer culture is the specific role of drag in Belgium's public LGBTQ+ life. Belgian drag has a distinct tradition — closer to French cabaret than to Anglo-American RuPaul-influenced drag — and Chez Maman's 31-year run has been the primary institutional site for that tradition. Regulars have included some of the most-cited Belgian drag performers: Ambiance Deluxe, Belladonna, Rita Rocket, and the trans performer Lolita Latex. Open Wednesday-Sunday from 22:00 to 04:00. Two-drink minimum. Bourse metro is a two-minute walk. On the standard Brussels queer heritage evening this is the natural cabaret stop — combine with pre-drinks at the neighbouring Chez Maman-adjacent Belgica bar and post-show at Le You dance club two blocks north for a full Brussels queer-nightlife circuit.

The best night I've ever had! The clientele was lovely, the servers were incredibly kind, the atmosphere was fantastic, and the drag queens weren't vulgar at all. A very professional show. I had an excellent evening and met some amazing people. Thank you, Mom and her artists! Plus, the restrooms were very clean.

A wonderful discovery! I came with my mother and a friend, who are French and were visiting Brussels, and this place had been recommended to us. Honestly, we have absolutely no regrets!
