The honest summary: Novi Sad, Serbia's second city and the capital of Vojvodina, has no gay bar, no gay club and no gay sauna in 2026. Optimist, Serbia's LGBT+ magazine, wrote in 2020 that "there is not a single club intended for the LGBT population in Novi Sad", and nothing we found since says otherwise. What the city does have is a small, active community: the Grupa Izađi centre, drag nights and a queer prom at the CK13 youth centre, and a Pride Week every May. Come for the Danube, the Petrovaradin Fortress and the old town, catch a queer night if one lines up with your dates, and take the 35-minute train to Belgrade if you want gay bars.
Legal in one line: Sex between men has been legal in Serbia since 1994 (Vojvodina's own code allowed it from 1977 until 1990), with an equal age of consent since 2006. The 2009 anti-discrimination law and the 2012 hate-crime article both cover sexual orientation and gender identity. The 2006 constitution limits marriage to a man and a woman, and there is still no partnership law: parliament refused again to debate a civil-partnership bill in November 2025. Legal gender change has been possible since 2019 without surgery.
Where the scene is
There is no gay neighbourhood, and none of the sources we checked names one. The old town is small and walkable. Zmaj Jovina, Dunavska and Trg Slobode (Freedom Square) form the pedestrian centre, and Laze Telečkog is the bar street. CK13, where most queer nights take place, is in Rotkvarija, a few minutes' walk north of the centre. Petrovaradin and its fortress sit across the Danube on the Srem bank.
Bars and clubs
None that we could confirm. Mainstream cafés and bars in the centre are generally relaxed with mixed crowds, but none of them presents itself as gay or queer, and we don't list them as such.
Queer nights
CK13 (Crna kuća 13), Vojvode Bojovića 13. This independent youth and culture centre hosts most of Novi Sad's queer events. Its own programme lists a Grupa Izađi drag show (February 2025), the Kul.t "Kvir matura" queer prom on 17 May 2025 during Pride Week, and Coven drag shows in November 2025, May 2026 and October 2026. There's no fixed weekly night, so check ck13.space/program before you go. The rest of CK13's programme is concerts, talks and workshops for everyone.
Couldn't confirm
Some travel sites call "The Quarter" (Club Quarter on Bulevar despota Stefana) the city's LGBTQ+ club. That text reads as machine-written, and every other source we found describes a mainstream club, so we don't list it. "My Place Bar" appears in one 2023 blog list, and we couldn't confirm that it exists. Lists of "gay-friendly" bars such as Gerila, Cactus, Absolut or Tesla Lounge are ordinary mainstream bars.
Gone but still Googled
Queen, once at Hotel Novi Sad on Bulevar Jaše Tomića, is still on some international gay maps but is closed. Yellow, the cult gay club in a tunnel under the Petrovaradin Fortress, closed years ago; Optimist wrote its obituary in April 2020.
Saunas
None. The nearest gay sauna is Red Line in Belgrade.
Cruising
We found no cruising area in Novi Sad confirmed by two independent sources, and we don't list any. Use the apps, and meet new contacts in public first.
Beaches
Štrand, under the Liberty Bridge on the Liman side, is the big city beach: mainstream and busy in July and August. There is no gay beach. A naturist club beach exists at Kamenjar, on the left bank of the Danube west of the city, but we found nothing that describes it as gay.
Pride and events
Novi Sad held its first Pride march on 17 May 2019, with about 200 people and no serious incidents. Since then Grupa Izađi has run Novi Sad Pride Week (Novosadska nedelja ponosa) in the week that contains 17 May, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. It's mostly exhibitions, films, panels, drag shows and the queer prom rather than a big parade. The 2024 week ran 13–18 May under the slogan "We Have Always Been Here", and the 2025 edition was called "Ostajem" ("I'm staying"). The 2027 dates have not been announced at the time of writing; expect mid-May. Belgrade Pride is the national march, held in early September (5 September in 2026).
EXIT, the big summer festival at the Petrovaradin Fortress, left Serbia after its 2025 edition, and the 2026 festival took place in Montenegro. Don't plan a July trip around it.
Community and health
Grupa Izađi ("Come Out") is the local LGBTQ+ group. It started in 2010, registered in 2013 and runs a community centre with peer and psychosocial support, youth programmes and Pride Week. Phone +381 69 2972211, website izadji.rs. Opening days have changed over the years, so get in touch before you drop by.
Free, anonymous HIV testing with counselling is available at the Institute of Public Health of Vojvodina, Futoška 121, with no referral needed. Check opening hours on izjzv.org.rs first. Labris and Da se zna! are Belgrade-based national groups. Da se zna! documents anti-LGBT incidents and can help if you need to report one.
Safety
Novi Sad is generally calm, and the centre is younger and more relaxed than most of Serbia. Public affection between men or between women still draws attention, so most local couples keep it low-key. Incidents do happen: a genderqueer activist was assaulted in the city in 2022, and rights groups recorded more than 100 threats and attacks on LGBTI people across Serbia in 2024. Meet app contacts in public, and use registered taxis or apps late at night.
Since the station canopy collapse of 1 November 2024, which killed 16 people, Serbia has seen large student-led protests, and Novi Sad has been at their centre. Expect big commemorations around 1 November, when parts of the centre may be closed.
Getting there and around
Novi Sad has no commercial airport. Belgrade Nikola Tesla (BEG) is about 90 km away, roughly an hour and a quarter by road. The fast Soko train links Belgrade Centre (Prokop) and Novi Sad in about 35 minutes. Novi Sad's main railway station has been closed since the 2024 collapse, so trains currently stop at Petrovaradin across the river, with free shuttle buses into the centre. Check srbijavoz.rs for the current stop before you travel. In town, the centre is walkable, and city buses and taxis (including app-booked ones) cover the rest.
Where to stay
Most visitors stay in or near the old town. Hotel Veliki on Nikole Pašića, Hotel Pupin on Narodnih heroja, Garni Hotel Mediteraneo on Ilije Ognjanovića and Kombinat Rooms on Bulevar Mihajla Pupina are all within walking distance of Zmaj Jovina. Hotel Leopold I sits inside the Petrovaradin Fortress with river views. The Sheraton and the Prezident are in the newer districts west of the centre, Hotel Element is near the bus and train area on Partizanska, and Hotel Garden is by the canal in the north. All of them are mainstream hotels; none is a gay hotel.
Gej (gay), lezbejka (lesbian), kvir (queer), Prajd / Parada ponosa (Pride), Nedelja ponosa (Pride Week). Hvala (thank you), Živeli! (cheers). Both Latin and Cyrillic script are used in Novi Sad, often on the same sign.

Domande frequenti
