Gay cruising in Madrid: the honest 2026 picture
If you are searching for cruising Madrid or zonas de cruising gay en Madrid, here is the short version. Madrid has the most complete cruising infrastructure in Spain, in four layers: a real cruise-bar scene in and around Chueca and the streets behind Gran Vía (something Seville and Valencia can only envy), eight gay saunas topped by the 1,400 m² Sauna Paraíso, two sex-shop cabin complexes that work by day, and the classic parks, Casa de Campo in the afternoon and Parque del Oeste after sunset. Indoor entry runs from free (Boyberry's bar) to €15 (Shower & Bar with a drink). The scene also turns over fast: half the venues in older guides are gone, one bar on this page (Naked) is very likely closed, and the parks that English-language guides still name (Retiro, Dehesa de la Villa) have no current evidence of activity. This page was re-verified in November 2026 against venue websites and 2025-2026 listings.
The verified spots: bares de cruising, cabinas and parks
Every place below exists in 2026. Where we could only confirm it from third-party listings rather than the venue itself, we say so. Madrid's clock runs late: nothing indoors is worth visiting before midnight on a weekend, and the parks follow daylight, not the clubs.
Shower & Bar · Calle de Pelayo 25, Chueca
The anchor of the Pelayo corridor and the oldest address on this list (founded 1990, long known as Sauna Men). Two floors with a bar, steam room, showers, darkrooms, private cabins, glory holes, bunk beds, a video room and the corridors that give the place its maze reputation. Dress code is nude or underwear only; street clothes go into a private locker at reception, slippers and towel included. The venue's own site lists it as a weekend after-hours club: Friday and Saturday from 23:00 through to 10:30 the next morning, open all night, with entry at €15 including a drink or €10 if you show the flyer from their website on your phone. Older listings mention Sunday evenings; treat anything outside Friday and Saturday as unconfirmed. Men only, 18+, 50 metres from Chueca metro.
Boyberry Madrid · Calle de Valverde 3, Centro
The budget classic and the easiest first step into Madrid cruising: a 100% gay bar with cruising, a darkroom, cabins and glory holes spread over a ground-floor bar and a circular basement play floor. The bar itself is free to enter and there is no dress code, so you can have a beer (from €5.30) and decide later; the cruising area has historically cost about €3, the cheapest ticket in European cruising. Boyberry's own site confirms it opens every day of the year: Monday to Thursday 12:00-03:00, Friday 12:00-03:30, Saturday 15:00-03:30, Sunday 15:00-03:00. That daytime opening is what makes it unusual; it catches the lunch-break and afternoon crowd that the clubs never see. Themed sessions (underwear, lights-out, a "young day") rotate without fixed dates, so check the site before going. Bring your own condoms and lube as backup.
The Ring Private · Calle del Amparo 78, Lavapiés
The full palace south of the centre, and the hardest-core address in Madrid: roughly 500 m² with slings, a wrestling ring at the centre (hence the name), mazes, a wet area, glory holes, cages and dungeon rooms. It describes itself as a private nudist club: membership is required, dress code is nude, leather, rubber or sportswear, and jeans stay in the locker. Open Friday and Saturday only, 21:00 to 05:30, closed Sunday to Thursday; it fills late, after the Chueca bars empty. Parties and themed nights are announced on social media rather than a fixed calendar. Metro Lavapiés or Embajadores (line 3), or Atocha. 18+ strictly.
Firewood · Calle de Caños Viejos 2, La Latina
A cruise-and-fetish bar in a quieter corner of the old town, a few minutes from La Latina metro and three stops from Chueca. The facilities are recent: a darkroom with slings and a cruising area behind a sociable front bar. Themed nights include gear parties and naked nights, but the house rule is that you dress as you like; the bar hands out free condoms and lubricant in partnership with Acción Triángulo. Hours differ between listings: one gives Friday and Saturday 20:00-03:30 and Sunday 15:00-23:00, another adds Wednesday and Thursday evenings (18:00-00:00). It has a 4.3 Google rating from about 200 reviews, so it is clearly trading; check their social media for the night's programme. We have corrected this listing, which previously carried a description belonging to a different venue.
Erotic Palace · Calle del Desengaño 12, behind Gran Vía
The cabinas tradition, Madrid style: a large sex shop with a cruising area of around 24 cabins, including glory-hole cabins, cabins with beds, a sling cabin and dark corners, plus video cabins and a small bar. Open 10:00 to 01:00 every day according to listings updated in mid-2025. It is a shop with a play area, not a gay bar, so the crowd is mixed in age and the atmosphere depends on the hour; late afternoon and after 22:00 are the busy windows. Cleanliness is the most common complaint in Google reviews (around 3.5 stars). Bring your own supplies rather than relying on what is on sale, keep valuables on you, and take a no as a no. Chueca is a ten-minute walk.
Sexyland · Paseo de las Delicias 25, Delicias (south of Atocha)
The bigger and better-rated of the two cabin complexes (4.5 from about 200 reviews): a shop floor of some 5,000 products, a multi-screen video-cabin area and a separate cruising zone with 17 cabins, among them glory-hole cabins, cabins with beds, dark areas and a sling cabin. Listed hours are Monday to Saturday 10:00-00:00 and Sundays and holidays 10:00-23:00. It is a ten-minute walk south of Atocha station or two stops on metro line 3 (Delicias), and the long daytime hours make it the obvious choice when the saunas feel like a commitment. The usual cabin rules apply: no photos, no pressure, condoms available at the counter.
Casa de Campo · woods near the Lago, Cerro de las Garabitas
Madrid's enormous former royal hunting ground west of the river has been an outdoor cruising area for as long as anyone can remember. Activity concentrates in the wooded sections between the lake (metro Lago, line 10) and the Cerro de las Garabitas, from mid-afternoon into early evening, with summer weekends the busiest. Know the geography: other parts of the park, mostly along the roads, are known street sex-work zones; the gay cruising areas by the lake and in the pine woods are a separate scene and locals keep to them. This is open parkland with no staff, no lighting and no security after dark, and petty theft is reported. Stay within sight of paths other people use, carry little, bring protection, download an offline map for the walk out, and leave if something feels off. We could not find a 2025-2026 written source either confirming or denying activity, so this entry rests on long-standing local knowledge; tell us if that has changed.
Parque del Oeste · terraces below the Templo de Debod, Argüelles
The elegant alternative: a landscaped hillside park beside the Templo de Debod and Paseo del Pintor Rosales, with terraced paths and gardens that offer plenty of secluded corners and the best sunset view of any cruising spot in the country. Activity runs from dusk onward, busiest Thursday to Sunday. Metro Ventura Rodríguez or Argüelles (lines 3 and 4). The park borders residential streets and is shared with dog walkers and joggers until late, so discretion matters more here than at Casa de Campo. Keep your phone and wallet out of sight and stay within reach of the lit avenues on the park's edge. Same caveat as above: no current written source, long-standing use.
Naked · Calle Monteleón 5, Malasaña (likely closed)
A leather-and-fetish bar over two floors that opened in 2016 in the former Copper premises, with a naked/underwear/jockstrap dress code, a 30 m² darkroom, a sling and fetish nights. Time Out Madrid's listing is now headed "Naked (cerrado)", and it has disappeared from the 2026 cruise-bar lists of the main gay guides. We have not found a dated 2025 or 2026 confirmation of the closure, so the listing stays up with a warning: do not plan a night around it, and let us know if you see it open or shuttered.
Cruisy bars and clubs listed elsewhere on this site
Three more venues belong in any Madrid cruising night but are filed under bars and saunas. Strong (Calle de Trujillos 7, near Callao) is the hybrid: around 500 m² with a DJ booth, stage and dance floor at the front and a large darkroom with bunk beds and cabins behind, men only, recently refurbished, and the host of the Odarko and Into The Tank fetish parties. Do not arrive before 01:30-02:00; at 23:00 you will have the room to yourself. Attack (Plaza de Tirso de Molina 20) is the fetish private club with a bar, chill-out, sling, cage, cross and wet area, and a basement dungeon; gear is expected. New since our last update is Secrets Bar (Calle de la Ballesta 7, just off Gran Vía on the Malasaña side): a sociable bar upstairs and a basement darkroom called the Secret Zone with cabins and glory holes, plus themed fetish nights, with affordable drinks and a friendlier door than the clubs. We are adding it as a new listing; hours are not published, so check its social media. The eight saunas, led by Sauna Paraíso (Calle del Norte 15, 24 hours from Saturday morning through the weekend), bear-house Sauna Octopus (Churruca 10), the show-driven SaunaBeach (Cuesta de Santo Domingo 1) and the vaulted-cellar Sauna Lavapiés (Zurita 3), are compared with prices on our Madrid sauna page.
Retiro and Dehesa de la Villa: why they are not on this page
Older English-language guides still name El Retiro and the Dehesa de la Villa as cruising parks. We checked both in 2026 and found no current source describing activity at either. Retiro is heavily used by families and tourists until its gates close at night (midnight in summer, 22:00 in winter) and is patrolled; the Dehesa de la Villa is a protected cultural landscape since 2024 and simply too far and too empty to have a scene. We only list places we can stand behind, so neither appears as a venue. If you have first-hand, recent knowledge, report it and we will revisit.
Closed, so you don't waste the taxi
Ignore older guides on these: Leather Club (Pelayo 42), Organic (Pelayo 30, marked closed on misterb&b, conflicting listings elsewhere), The Cage (San Bartolomé 4), Club Baco (Olmo 31), The Meat Rack (Montserrat 30), Madness (Tres Peces 32, a Lavapiés cruise club with maze, slings and video room, gone for years), Copper (the predecessor of Naked, closed 2016) and the saunas Adán (San Bernardo 38) and Gran Vía (Barco 6). We restore any venue that reopens.
When to go
Madrid runs on the latest clock in Europe, and fighting it is futile. The parks follow the sun: Casa de Campo from mid-afternoon, Parque del Oeste from dusk. The cabinas (Erotic Palace, Sexyland) and Boyberry cover the day and early evening; they are the only indoor options before 22:00. The clubs take over after midnight: The Ring from 21:00 and Firewood from 20:00 nominally, both busy from 01:00, Shower & Bar from 23:00 through dawn, Strong's darkroom from 02:00. Sunday afternoon is the hidden peak of the week: after vermut and tapas in Chueca or La Latina around 16:00, the crowd moves to the saunas (Paraíso's weekend 24-hour mode absorbs whoever dawn delivers) and, when it opens Sunday, Shower & Bar. Weather matters outdoors: Madrid summers push park activity to after 20:00, and January nights empty the terraces entirely.
Getting there and getting home
Metro Chueca (line 5) exits into the middle of Pelayo; Gran Vía (lines 1 and 5) and Callao (3 and 5) serve Boyberry, Secrets, Erotic Palace and Strong; Lavapiés or Embajadores (line 3) for The Ring and Sauna Lavapiés; La Latina (line 5) for Firewood; Lago (line 10) for Casa de Campo; Ventura Rodríguez (3) or Argüelles (3, 4, 6) for Parque del Oeste; Delicias (3) for Sexyland. The metro runs until about 01:30 every night, which is before anything in this guide gets going, so budget for the way back: Madrid's night buses (búhos) fan out from Plaza de Cibeles, and Uber, Cabify, Bolt and the white official taxis are plentiful and cheap by European standards. The scene's two poles, Chueca in the centre and the harder venues around Lavapiés, are one short metro hop or a 20-minute walk apart; at 05:00 the slope back up from Lavapiés votes for the taxi. For the parks, note where the lit exits are before you go in and do not rely on a ride-share driver agreeing to enter unlit dirt tracks.
Apps and the local reality
Grindr density in Chueca is among the highest in Europe, with Scruff strong in the bear and fetish crowds and Recon active during the leather weekends. Locals use the apps as a bridge to the venues rather than a replacement: "¿Shower a la 1?" is a complete Madrid sentence. Vocabulary for the chat: activo, pasivo, versátil, condón, and "¿local?", which asks whether either of you can host. Profiles that name a venue and a time get answers; profiles asking for a hotel address do not. The parks have no app culture to speak of; people go there specifically to leave the phone in their pocket.
The law
Spain is one of the most LGBTQ-friendly countries in the world. Same-sex marriage and joint adoption have been legal nationwide since 2005, comprehensive anti-discrimination laws cover employment, housing and services, and a 2023 law allows legal gender self-determination. Cruising as such is not a crime; licensed sex venues, darkrooms and saunas are fully legal businesses, and the Penal Code's exhibitionism article is aimed at acts in front of minors. Outdoors, the practical rule is the same as everywhere in Spain: sex in a public park is a public-order matter, dealt with by a request to move on or at worst a municipal fine, and the risk rises sharply near playgrounds, roads and busy paths. Madrid city police do patrol Casa de Campo, mostly for the sex-work roads and for safety, not to hunt gay men. Drug possession for personal use in public can be fined under the Public Safety Act, which is the thing that actually gets visitors into trouble on a night out.
Health: PrEP, testing and PEP in Madrid
Madrid's specialist sexual-health clinic is the Centro Sanitario Sandoval at Calle de Sandoval 7 in Chamberí (not in Chueca, despite what many guides say): free and confidential rapid tests for HIV, syphilis and other STIs, no documentation and no appointment required, listed by the Comunidad de Madrid as open Monday to Friday 08:00-22:00. It is also an authorised PrEP dispensing point in the public system, with PrEP starts by appointment and follow-up. A second site, Sandoval II, opened in February 2025 at Calle de Andrés Mellado 65 (Moncloa), weekdays 08:00-15:00, with and without appointment, and also dispenses PrEP and PEP. For PEP after a risk, go within 72 hours (ideally far sooner) to any hospital emergency department (urgencias); it is free. Community testing is also run by Apoyo Positivo and COGAM, our listed LGBTQ+ organisation. Condoms and lube are provided at the licensed venues; carry your own for the cabinas and the parks. Emergency number: 112. Pharmacies rotate 24-hour duty (farmacia de guardia); the nearest open one is posted on every pharmacy door.
Safety and etiquette
- Indoors: every club has a cloakroom with numbered bags or private lockers; use them, it is the system and your clothes are safe. Cards work everywhere, including the cruise bars; keep a few coins for cloakroom tips.
- Dress codes are real at Shower & Bar (nude or underwear) and The Ring (nude, leather, rubber or sportswear), relaxed at Boyberry, Firewood and Secrets. Fetish-night dress codes at Strong and Attack are enforced at the door.
- Consent: a no, a turned back or a moved hand ends the interaction. Madrid venues eject quickly for pushiness and photos; phones stay in the locker in play areas.
- Outdoors: carry only what you need, keep the phone hidden, stay near paths other people use, know your exit, and never follow someone deep into unlit woodland. Casa de Campo in particular has robberies reported after dark.
- Chemsex is a documented problem in Madrid's scene; GHB and mephedrone circulate at some parties. Apoyo Positivo runs a dedicated chemsex support service if you or someone you meet needs it.
- Public affection between men is unremarkable in Chueca, Malasaña and Lavapiés and generally safe citywide; Madrid's safety rating on our index is the maximum.
The circuit and the calendar
MADO, Madrid Pride, in late June and early July, is the biggest Pride in Europe; Chueca becomes a single open-air venue and every address in this guide runs at capacity for six days. Book a hotel four to six months ahead; rates triple and Chueca sells out. Madrid Leather Weekend / Fetish Madrid turns the cruise bars into headquarters for a long weekend each autumn (2027 dates not announced yet), and MadBear, 3-10 December 2026, fills Octopus and the bear bars for a week. Odarko and Into The Tank, the big fetish parties, run several editions a year at Strong or Chango; dates appear on their socials a few weeks ahead.
Nearby alternatives
If Madrid's clubs feel too hard or too late, the saunas are the gentler route, and Sauna Paraíso with its pool and young crowd is the most visitor-friendly door in the city. Beyond Madrid, Spain's cruising geography is on our gay cruising map; Sitges, Torremolinos and Maspalomas are the beach-cruising destinations, each a short flight or train away. For a social evening before any of this, the 60-plus gay bars on our Madrid bars page start at Baranoa and Gris and end with the singing at Why Not.
Frequently asked questions
Is cruising legal in Madrid?
Cruising itself is not a crime in Spain, and licensed cruise bars, clubs and saunas are fully legal; Madrid has more of them than any other Spanish city. Sex in a public park can draw a request to move on or a municipal fine, so the parks call for discretion.
What is the best gay cruise bar in Madrid?
Shower & Bar on Calle Pelayo is Chueca's anchor: two floors of darkrooms, cabins and a steam room, nude or underwear, Friday and Saturday 23:00-10:30 for €10-15. Boyberry is the daytime and budget classic, Strong the dance-and-darkroom hybrid, and The Ring the full fetish club in Lavapiés.
What is the best gay sauna in Madrid?
Sauna Paraíso, the largest in Madrid at 1,400 m² with a heated pool, 30 cabins and three darkrooms, running 24 hours at weekends with a young crowd. Octopus is the bear alternative, SaunaBeach the late-night show venue.
Is Casa de Campo still an active cruising spot?
By all local accounts yes, in the wooded areas near the Lago from mid-afternoon to early evening, with Parque del Oeste taking over at sunset. Both are enormous public parks with no lighting or security, so the full discretion and safety rules apply.
Is cruising in Retiro park a thing?
Not that we can verify in 2026. Retiro closes at night, is patrolled and is full of families; we found no current source describing activity there, so we do not list it.
When is the best time to visit gay Madrid?
Late June to early July for MADO, Madrid Pride, autumn for Madrid Leather Weekend, or early December for MadBear. Sunday afternoon sessions are a Madrid institution year-round.
Keep this page honest
We re-verified every venue on this page in November 2026 against venue websites and 2025-2026 listings, and we only keep what we can stand behind. If you find a closed door, a new price, a changed dress code, or a venue we have missed, use the correction link on any Madrid venue page or on the Gay Madrid guide; corrections from two independent reports go live within days. The parks in particular rely on readers: nobody publishes an official schedule for Casa de Campo.
