Madrid Gay Pride / Orgullo
About This Event
Madrid Orgullo, MADO, is two things at once: a serious political march, and a free city-centre street party that takes over Chueca and the downtown squares for days. Spain legalised same-sex marriage in 2005, and the city leans into that history. The 2026 campaign was "20 años de amor." The first demonstration here took place in 1978, three years after Franco's death. The march today is organised by the LGBTI+ groups COGAM and FELGTBI+, and the business association AEGAL runs the stages and party side.
The week has a clear rhythm. Chueca's neighbourhood Pride opens it, then the Pregón, the official opening speech, takes place on Plaza Pedro Zerolo. There are free concert stages on Plaza de España, Puerta del Sol, Plaza de las Reinas and Pedro Zerolo, and the Carrera de Tacones, a sprint in high heels down Calle Pelayo. The Saturday march, the Manifestación Estatal, runs from Atocha up Paseo del Prado to Plaza de Colón. It's a march with floats, not a show for spectators, and joining in on foot is normal. Ticketed circuit parties fill the clubs every night.
MADO is set for the first week of July, with the march on the Saturday evening. It is hot: afternoons often pass 35°C, and the march starts around 7pm because of it. Drink water constantly and pace yourself through the late nights. Rooms in and around Chueca disappear early and spike in price, so book months out or stay a metro ride away in Lavapiés, Malasaña or Salamanca.
The 2026 edition ran from 25 June to 5 July 2026, with the march on Saturday, 4 July, under the slogan "¡A las calles con orgullo! Disidencia y resistencia." Organisers claimed more than a million people at the march; press reports put the crowd at tens of thousands at least. The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked.
