About this place Berkana Librería Gay

Berkana, the queer‑focused bookshop on Calle de Hortaleza, has been a Chueca fixture since 1993. Inside, the shelves are a mix of fiction, history, essays, trans and lesbian titles, comics and children’s books. Most of the stock is in Spanish, but you’ll also find a modest English selection. The shop doubles as a community board: flyers, magazines and announcements for local book presentations plaster the walls. It opens every day, 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, with reduced hours on weekends. A short walk from Plaza de Chueca, it slips easily into an afternoon stroll through the barrio. If you’re looking for Spanish queer authors, just ask the staff—they’ll point you in the right direction.
