Charlotte Pride

Charlotte Pride is North Carolina's biggest LGBTQ+ event. It began in 2001 in Marshall Park, moved Uptown in 2011, and in 2026 held its 26th festival. It matters beyond the city: this is the state that passed the HB2 'bathroom bill' in 2016, and a free weekend that fills the central business district carries weight here. The organizers reported more than 260,000 people in 2023, and we found no independent count.
The festival takes over First Ward Park and the surrounding Uptown streets on Saturday from noon to 10pm and Sunday from noon to 6pm. The parade runs on Sunday afternoon, from 1pm to 4pm in 2026, along Tryon Street, and the organizers bill it as the city's largest annual parade. Entry to both is free; only VIP packages are ticketed. Pride week events run in the days before. Saturday is the long festival day, open until 10pm, and the evening is when Uptown is busiest. Sunday closes earlier but has the parade, so if you can only make one day, Sunday gives you both.
The heat is the main thing to plan for. Mid-August in Charlotte is brutal: for the 2026 weekend, forecasters warned of heat index values above 100°F. Bring water, take breaks in the shade or in air-conditioned bars, and watch the parade from the shaded side of Tryon. The LYNX light rail ($2.20 one way in 2026) and free park-and-ride lots are easier than Uptown garages. Book Uptown hotels early, since rooms within walking distance of First Ward Park go first.
The last edition ran on 15 and 16 August 2026. The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked; the festival usually falls on the third weekend of August.
