Mammoth Mountain Inn

Stayed here for 2 nights. The location is nice but far away from town so for restaurants and any other requirements, we had to drive 3 to 5 miles. We felt that if we knew, we would have picked a hotel in town as the town has lots of restaurants and village/mall area good for walks and relaxing. Only positive was that you get the summer shuttle right in front of the property. Property is old and has many buildings. Our building was a stand alone two story unit with no elevator. So you have to carry your bags up the stairs. The hall carpet and paint were worn out. Rooms were dark, small and dated. The thing that we didn't like was that it was not well maintained. Even an old property can be kept clean, carpets can be washed regularly, etc. We have stayed in many old properties/ hotels that are maintained well but this one looks neglected. The room and the building was so dusty that it flared up our allergies. May be other buildings were better but our experience was very disappointing. Staff was okay. Some were rude and some polite. We will not be staying at this property again. We voiced our concerns and the front desk response was to write a review online if you have concerns. Not a very professional response.

The hotel is in a state of disrepair, barely bookable. It's quite a distance from Mammoth Lake (7-8 miles). The food is decent, but there's a bit of a wait. It might be nicer in winter.

They have several different buildings within the hotel complex, and the building and room we were given was rather creepy. The room was very dark, and everything inside felt old; you could see its age—over 50 years old and 20 years without renovation—in many details. It reminded me slightly of the hotel in the movie The Shining. The location is great if you're going to enjoy the snow, but if you want to be close to the town and restaurants, there are much better options. One of the reasons we chose this hotel was for the mountain views, and the room they gave us didn't have a view at all, which was a shame.
