Moxy San Diego Downtown/Gaslamp Quarter

Had the best few days at the Moxy! Everyone was so kind, helpful and friendly. Chatting with Matt at the bar/check-in was always a pleasure, he’s cool, kind and informative - also makes a great espresso martini. And I loved Ronan, he’s incredibly kind and friendly really enjoyed chatting with him daily while waiting for my rides. Hotel is clean, has great service, great amenities. Will be back for sure!

Valet scratched my car in August of 2025. Had cars parked in the valet location. Barely any room to pull over with cars driving down the street.

I wanted to rate this stay a one star but had to be a little kind of possible. I know what a one star rating does to your business. But I’ll be honest in my write up. The location was good, quick walk to all attractions. But the pics on the website and Bonvoy app are very deceiving. The room was so small and hard to move around with luggage and two adults. Beds were not comfortable at all. The bathroom was way too small And were peeling. I was about ready to just check out and leave, but the wife said it would be a waste of time because we had to leave at 3am to catch our flight. Couldn’t get the car brought up via the valet ticket given to me. Called the number in the ticket and it gave me a discounted tone. Text it to get my car and my reply was that they couldn’t find my ticket. Called the front desk and was greeting with a voicemail that the guest survive was unavailable. Had to call front desk from my personal phone, and the survive person wasn’t too helpful I had to tell him everything I needed and was told it would be awhile before he could call valet for me. 15 minutes later we go down to the lobby our car is still not there. When it’s finally there there driver asked if we need help I said yes and opened the back door. He walks away and then yells back to us. “You’re checking out right!” I would not stay here again even if it’s the last hotel in San Diego. I’ll just sleep in my car!!!

Room was absolutely tiny - couldn’t even open my suitcase all the way. Pillows were paper thin, even doubled up. They had karaoke in the lobby ON A MONDAY that was supposed to end at 10, but went well past 11, so I got 3 hours of sleep before my flight.

I stayed there well over about a month ago. And the valley was really bad. First off they gave my keys to a different guest and I wasn’t able to use my car for one day. Then the following day it took over 50 minutes to get my car from valet. I tried reaching out to the hotel many times until I finally reach somebody. They offered me 8000 points to my Bonvoy account and they never came through at all. I tried calling them back and every single time I’ve called them no one ever answers. Would never stay here again.

Love the location! Moxy rooms are small but that is what it is. Great service here (especially from Jessica!). Would stay again and have stayed here multiple times.

David, Bella and Jessica are the absolute best bartenders in San Diego! They are super friendly and gave us great recommendations. They deserve raises for sure! Will be back because of them :)

Excellent service made this 5 stars, but the hotel could definitely use some maintenance. First and most importantly, Vanessa and Leon were absolutely amazing when I expressed the concerns in this review. You could tell they genuinely cared and appreciated feedback that can make the hotel better. For their outstanding customer service, it would be wrong to give anything less than 5 stars. If it weren't for them, this would honestly have been a 1 star. This is a boutique/European hotel, which is obviously not for everyone. Very small rooms. The room also did not have a coffee maker or a closet. There were three makeshift hangers on knobs on the wall, which is just unacceptable. Beyond that, the hangers were put together by push pins that kept falling apart. Worst case scenario for someone like me that has to hang up several suits for business meetings. The room was so small I had to put my suitcase in the walkway by the bathroom. The tv was a joke as well. Very slow streaming and bad resolution (guessing internet issues). The card readers for the hotel room and elevators were horrible, and it literally took a minute sometimes to get them to read a card. The thermostat in the room only had a hybrid option (no heat or AC only), and it kept turning on in the middle of the night even when I turned off the thermostat. The unit was right next to the bed, and it was outrageously loud. There was that noise and the obnoxious valet guys outside. They were so loud yelling at each other from across the street from each other that it was impossible to sleep right above them. To summarize, Vanessa and Leon saved this review. Ownership, GM, and Marriott have some serious work to do maintaining the hotel though.

Trendy hotel in gas lamp quarter. You check in at the bar. Hotel has a speak easy. Room are a bit small otherwise 5 stars. Bed was very comfortable. Service is friendly.
