In Lima the steam rooms fill up while the sun is still out. Around six, when offices empty and the buses on Avenida Arenales crawl through the traffic, men slip through discreet doors in the old streets behind Plaza Bolognesi and in the apartment blocks of Lince. Older limeños still call these places baños turcos, Turkish baths, and in Lima they work to their own clock: most open at three in the afternoon and close before eleven, hours before ValeTodo gets busy. The scene is small and local. Four men-only saunas were still listed as operating in 2025–26, two of them in the historic centre, and prices are low. Here's what we could confirm, what has closed or gone quiet, and how to get there and back safely.

Legal in one line: Sex between men has been legal in Peru since 1924, with an equal age of consent, but there are no civil unions or same-sex marriage (a civil-union bill cleared a congressional committee in November 2024 but never reached a full vote), no gender identity law, and since May 2025 Law 32331 requires people to use public toilets according to their biological sex. Licensed saunas operate openly; sex in public places remains an offence.

How Lima's saunas work

Lima's men's saunas are small to medium-sized and mostly local. A typical house has a dry sauna (sauna seco or Finnish room), a steam room (vapor), showers, a video room, a darkroom (cuarto oscuro) and private cabins (cabinas), with a small bar selling soft drinks and beer. You pay at the door, get a towel and a locker key, and change. Several travel guides list the same daily rhythm, roughly 15:00 to 22:00 or 23:00, and the after-work hours are the busiest. Weekend afternoons and Saturday nights also draw a crowd. Cards are accepted at some places, but bring soles in cash.

Centro and Santa Beatriz

The historic centre (Cercado de Lima) and the neighbouring Santa Beatriz area, south of Paseo Colón, are where Lima's sauna scene began. They are also the part of the city where you should ride door to door after dark.

240 Club · Jirón Tarma 240, Cercado de Lima

The long-running downtown house, and the one locals still call el 240 or the old Baños Turcos 240. It's on Jirón Tarma, half a block from Plaza Bolognesi, and Nomadic Boys says it has been open since the 1990s. It's spread over two floors, with a Finnish room, two Turkish steam rooms, showers, a gym, a bar and kitchen, a TV and video room, a darkroom, private cabins and massage; Travel Gay and Spartacus both mention free extra towels. The crowd is mainly local men. GayCities reviewers describe busy Fridays, clean facilities and helpful staff, but also crowding and waits for cabins at peak times.

Hours: 15:00–22:00 on weekdays and Sunday, but two sources disagree on Saturday: Travel Gay gives 15:00–23:00, while Nomadic Boys (updated June 2026) and Spartacus say it stays open all night until 08:00 on Sunday. Check the Facebook page before planning a late night. Prices: a Spartacus listing seen in October 2026 gives S/ 20, or S/ 15 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and says Visa is accepted. That listing is undated, so expect to pay a little more. Phone (01) 332 4370.

Sauna 69 Clásico · Jirón Emilio Fernández 782, Santa Beatriz

The original of the two Sauna 69 houses, on a quiet street in Santa Beatriz near the Jesús María border (Travel Gay places it in Jesús María). It's small, with a dry sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, darkroom and video room, and Travel Gay describes friendly regulars. Nomadic Boys and Hello Peru say it draws a more mature crowd and is popular with bears. Both list it as open daily from 15:00 to 23:00, and GayTravelr gave 15:00–22:00 in October 2026. It may not show up on Google Maps, so give your driver the street address. No current prices are published.

Lince and Surquillo

These residential districts sit between Miraflores and the centre. They're 10 to 15 minutes by car from most Miraflores hotels, and the streets are calmer than downtown.

Sauna 69 VIP · Av. Arenales 1423 B, Lince

The newer Sauna 69 is on Avenida Arenales, a few blocks from the Andel karaoke bar. Rainbow Index lists saunas, steam rooms and jacuzzi, calls it on the smaller side and says it draws men in their 20s to late 30s, a mix of locals and tourists. GayTravelr listed it as open daily from 15:00 to 22:00 in October 2026; Rainbow Index (updated April 2025) gives 15:00–23:00. Phone 939 305 571; Instagram @sauna69vipoficial. No prices are published.

Assia Spa for Men · Gonzales Prada 433, Surquillo

For most visitors this is the easiest place to start. It's in Surquillo, a short ride from Miraflores, and Nomadic Boys says it opened in 2019, run by an American and Peruvian gay couple. It's a men's sauna and spa with dry and steam rooms, private cabins and a bar, plus massages and spa packages, and guides describe it as large and clean, with a mix of tourists and locals. It's listed as open daily from 15:00 to 23:00, and GayTravelr gave 15:00–22:00 in October 2026. No prices are published, so ask at the door.

Mixed baths, "spas" and massage

Baños Pardo, the old bathhouse in older guides, is a mixed, ordinary baños turcos. According to Hello Peru, under new management prices have risen sharply and staff discourage anything beyond a steam, so go there only for the steam. More generally, a sign saying sauna, spa or masajes in Lima doesn't mean a gay venue. Some are ordinary family baths, and some are fronts for sex work: in January 2026 La República reported that police rescued a minor and 12 women who were being exploited in a "fake sauna" in Pueblo Libre. Stick to the venues above, and if you want a massage, book one that the sauna itself offers.

Closed, paused or unconfirmed: Pride Sauna & Hotel (Jirón Tomás Guido 250, Lince, the same address as the Out & Pride club) is marked temporarily closed by Travel Gay; another directory still lists hours, so treat it as uncertain. Studio 5 Club, which Hello Peru describes as near the centre with private rooms for an extra S/ 10, has no address or current listing we could check. In 2026 GayTravelr also listed newer names, including Sauna Olimpus, Sauna Zeus and Stark Sauna; we couldn't confirm their addresses or whether they are men-only, so ask on the apps first.

Staying safe: the risks are general, not gay-specific. The Cercado de Lima and Santa Beatriz are not places to walk around with your phone out after dark, so order Uber, Cabify, DiDi or InDrive to the door, and order the return trip from inside. Don't hail street taxis at night. Lock everything in your locker, including your phone, and bring only the cash you need. Drink spiking (pepeo) is a known risk in Lima: don't accept open drinks from strangers, and don't take someone from the sauna back to your hotel the same night without meeting them properly first. Emergency numbers: police 105, ambulance (SAMU) 106.

Local colour: steam, then ceviche

A sauna afternoon fits neatly into a Lima day. Have a late lunch of fresh ceviche at a neighbourhood cevichería (many open only for lunch), spend a couple of hours in the steam, then go back to Miraflores for sunset on the clifftops and a pisco sour or chilcano (pisco, ginger ale and lime). On the way home, look out for the street carts grilling anticuchos, skewers of marinated beef heart. On a Saturday you can finish at one of Lima's gay bars, such as ValeTodo Downtown in Miraflores, which doesn't really fill up until after midnight.

Practical tips

    • Getting there: distances are short, but Lima's traffic is slow at rush hour. By day the Metropolitano bus line, with its own lanes, links Miraflores with the historic centre; after dark, take a ride-hail car door to door.
    • Money: carry soles in small notes. Entry, cabins and drinks are usually paid separately.
    • What to bring: flip-flops (sandalias), ID and a small padlock if you like your own. Towels are provided; bring your own condoms and lube to be sure.
    • Etiquette: shower before the steam room, keep your towel on in the corridors, and accept a polite "no" (or a hand moved away) without fuss. Phones stay in the locker: photographing other men is a serious breach of trust in a city where many guests are caleta (discreet, not out).
    • Health: if you might have been exposed to HIV, go to the emergency department (emergencia) of a hospital or health centre straight away. MINSA has said PEP is free at its facilities, and it must start within 72 hours. The NGO Vía Libre works on sexual health in Lima. If you use PrEP, bring enough for your trip.
    • Trans travellers: Law 32331 may cause problems in public toilets; the saunas listed here are men-only venues.

    Lima Pride

The Marcha del Orgullo is organised by the Colectivo Marcha del Orgullo Perú every June. In 2026 it took place on Saturday 27 June under the slogan "Familias que incluyen, orgullo que resiste". Activities began on Avenida de la Peruanidad by the Campo de Marte in Jesús María, and at 15:00 the march set off through the Cercado de Lima before returning to the Campo de Marte. That is a short ride from the downtown saunas, which are busiest that weekend. The 2027 date had not been announced at the time of writing; the march usually falls on the last Saturday of June.

A few words of Peruvian Spanish

    • Baños turcos: Turkish baths, the old Lima name for a steam bath and for the gay saunas. Vapor: steam room. Sauna seco: dry sauna.
    • Cuarto oscuro: darkroom. Cabina: private cabin. Casillero or locker: locker. Toalla: towel.
    • ¿Cuánto es la entrada?: How much is entry?
    • De ambiente: "from the scene", the common Peruvian way to say gay. Un pata de ambiente: a gay guy.
    • Caleta: discreet, on the down-low.
    • Activo / pasivo / versátil: top / bottom / versatile. Condón or preservativo: condom.
    • Profilaxis post-exposición (PEP): what to ask for at the hospital.

Frequently asked questions

What are the main gay saunas in Lima?

Four men-only saunas were still listed as operating in 2025–26: 240 Club at Jirón Tarma 240 in the historic centre, Assia Spa for Men at Gonzales Prada 433 in Surquillo near Miraflores, and the two Sauna 69 houses, Clásico in Santa Beatriz and VIP on Avenida Arenales in Lince. 240 Club is the long-running two-floor house with a gym, Assia is the usual first stop for visitors, and the Sauna 69 pair are smaller and more local.

How much does a gay sauna in Lima cost?

Not much by international standards, but current prices are rarely published. A Spartacus listing seen in October 2026 gives S/ 20 for 240 Club, or S/ 15 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and private cabins usually cost extra. Bring soles in cash and ask at the door.

When are Lima's gay saunas open?

Lima's saunas are an afternoon and early-evening scene. Most open at 15:00 and close at 22:00 or 23:00, and the after-work hours are the busiest. For 240 Club's Saturday, two sources disagree (23:00 or all night until 08:00), so check its Facebook page before planning a late night.

Is it safe to visit the saunas in central Lima?

Inside, yes: the saunas operate openly, are men-only and are staffed. The risk is the street outside, as the Cercado de Lima and Santa Beatriz are not places to walk around with a phone out after dark. Take Uber, Cabify, DiDi or InDrive to the door and back, use the locker for everything and carry little cash.

Where can I get PEP in Lima?

Go to the emergency department of a hospital or health centre as soon as possible and ask for profilaxis post-exposición. Peru's Ministry of Health (MINSA) has said PEP is free at its facilities and must start within 72 hours of the exposure. Private clinics can also prescribe it.
