About This Event

The Lima Pride March — Marcha del Orgullo LGBT+ — happens every June or July. Around 20,000 people march or watch, moving through the streets of Miraflores.

That's a small crowd by Latin American standards, and it tells you something about the political climate for LGBTQ+ people in Lima. Peru's Congress decided in 2024 that transgender people are mentally ill. Same-sex unions still aren't recognized, even after several tries in the legislature. Powerful Catholic and evangelical groups actively push anti-LGBTQ+ ideas.

So, the 20,000 people who march do it knowing all this. It makes Lima Pride defiant, deeply political. It's not like the big, party-like marches in Colombia, Argentina, or Brazil. Groups like PROMSEX use Pride week to advocate and talk to the media. The march usually sticks to Miraflores because it's the safest spot in Lima for LGBTQ+ people to gather visibly.

If you're an LGBTQ+ visitor from abroad, going to Lima Pride is an act of solidarity. You're standing with a community that's up against real institutional hostility. The experience will likely feel more charged, more important, than bigger marches in places with more supportive governments.
