Fabulous Flute Favorites
About the event
Fabulous Flute Favorites” performed by Anne Janson, flute; Mary Jane Austin, piano; and special guest Elias Galligan '27, flute. Free and open to the public.
Repertoire to be performed will be the Concertino by Cecile Chaminade, Franz Doppler’s Andante and Rondo, the Carmen Fantasy; arranged for two flutes and piano by Anne Janson, and the Suite by Charles Widor. Anne and Mary Jane are affiliate artists with the University of Vermont Music Program and both play in the Vermont Symphony Orchestra.
Elias is majoring in Flute Performance at UVM. He is an incredible and unique flutist; his right hand only has 2 fingers yet he manages to have brilliant technique. He will be highlighted in the performance playing the Tango Etude #1 for solo flute by Astor Piazzolla.
The Chaminade, Doppler, and Carmen are all popular show pieces, known and loved by every serious flutist; the Widor Suite is less well known. Charles Marie Widor of the late romantic era was a composer and virtuoso organist at the prominent Church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris, which housed the most famous organ in the world, the “Cavalier-Coll”. His most popular work is the “Tocatta” from his 5th Organ Symphony and is often used as a wedding recessional.
