Gay Port St. Lucie: the honest 2026 guide

The honest summary: Port St. Lucie is Florida's sixth-largest city, about 268,000 people (Census estimate for 2025) on the Treasure Coast, an hour north of Palm Beach. It's a fast-growing, car-based city of planned neighbourhoods, golf courses and spring baseball, and it has no gay bar. Nor does the rest of St. Lucie or Martin County: the owner of the nearest one, The Purple Lizard in Lake Park, told OutSFL in December 2025 that his bar is the furthest north on this stretch of coast. What Port St. Lucie does have is an active LGBTQ+ non-profit, The Sanctuary of the Treasure Coast, and the region's Pride festival, Treasure Coast PrideFest. For nightlife, people drive south to Palm Beach County or Wilton Manors.

Legal in one line: Same-sex marriage has been legal in Florida since 6 January 2015, but there is no state law that bans anti-LGBTQ discrimination in housing, work or public places, and neither Port St. Lucie nor St. Lucie County has a local ordinance that does.

Bars and nightlife

There is no gay or lesbian bar in Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce, Stuart, Jensen Beach or Vero Beach that we could confirm in October 2026. When you search maps for "gay bar Port St. Lucie", you get ordinary pubs, sports bars and kava bars. We haven't listed any of them, because none has a regular LGBTQ+ night we could verify. We also found no recurring drag show at a mainstream bar in the city; drag on the Treasure Coast tends to be one-off events, often run by the Sanctuary.

The nearest gay bars, going south on I-95:

  • The Purple Lizard (826 Park Ave, Lake Park), about 45 miles and 45-50 minutes south. It opened on 8 October 2025 and says it wants to draw people from the Treasure Coast. We don't list it yet because Lake Park doesn't have a city page on GayOut.
  • Mad Hatter Lounge in Lake Worth Beach, about an hour south.
  • Wilton Manors, next to Fort Lauderdale, about 1 hour 45 minutes south. It's South Florida's main gay village, with a strip of bars on Wilton Drive.

If you plan a night out down there, book a room there too. The drive back up I-95 late at night is long.

Community: The Sanctuary of the Treasure Coast

The Sanctuary of the Treasure Coast is the area's LGBTQ+ community organisation. It was founded in Port St. Lucie in March 2021 and, according to local press, now has more than 3,000 members. It runs peer support groups, grief groups and help with jobs and healthcare, plus clinics for gender-affirming care and legal name changes.

WQCS reported in December 2025 that the Sanctuary was moving into a permanent donated space near US-1 and Prima Vista Boulevard, due to open in February 2026. We couldn't confirm the exact street address, so check thesanctuaryofthetreasurecoast.org or its social pages for the location and group times before you go.

Other groups in the area:

  • PFLAG Stuart supports LGBTQ+ people and their families in Martin County, about 20 minutes south. It held a "Home Away from Home" Christmas Day gathering in Palm City in 2025 (WPTV). We couldn't confirm its regular meeting place, so we haven't given it a listing.
  • Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Treasure Coast (21 SE Central Pkwy, Stuart) belongs to an LGBTQ-affirming denomination and has hosted Sanctuary events.
  • The LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus of the Treasure Coast holds membership meetings for people who want to get involved in local politics.

Pride: Treasure Coast PrideFest

Treasure Coast PrideFest is the one Pride festival for the region. There is no separate Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce or Stuart Pride, and Vero Beach's Pride events appear to have stopped after 2022. PrideFest is held at the St. Lucie County Fairgrounds (15601 W Midway Rd, Fort Pierce), about 20 minutes north-west of central Port St. Lucie, and has run since about 2005.

  • 2025: the 20th edition, Sunday 1 June, 10am to 6pm. Tickets were $10 in advance and $15 at the gate; children 10 and under got in free (Hometown News).
  • 2026: the 21st edition moved to April: Saturday 25 April, with more than 100 vendors, a parade at 1pm and the Gay Men's Chorus of South Florida.
  • 2027: not announced by the organiser at the time of writing. Some listings show 24 April 2027 (the fourth Saturday of April), but treat that as a guess until the Sanctuary confirms it.

Saunas, cruising and beaches

There is no gay sauna or bathhouse anywhere on the Treasure Coast, and we found no cruising club or adult venue to list. We don't publish outdoor cruising spots.

Port St. Lucie itself has no ocean beach. The nearest beaches are on Hutchinson Island, 20-30 minutes away over the causeways at Fort Pierce, Jensen Beach and Stuart. Fort Pierce Inlet State Park has surf on one side and calm water on the other, and Jensen Beach Park and Waveland Beach have lifeguards.

Blind Creek Beach on Hutchinson Island, just north of the St. Lucie nuclear plant, is the only official clothing-optional beach on the Treasure Coast: St. Lucie County designated part of it in 2020. It's a naturist beach, not a gay beach, and the rules are strict. Nudity is allowed only inside the marked zone, you must cover up in the car park, and lewd behaviour is a crime. In late October 2025, renovation work pushed some visitors north of the zone and eight people were arrested for indecent exposure. Check the county's current notices before you go, as access was disrupted during the works.

Health: HIV testing and PrEP

The Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie County offers free HIV, hepatitis and STI testing, and PrEP for people without insurance. Its Port St. Lucie clinic is at 5150 NW Milner Dr (772-462-3925). The main HIV and STI service runs from the 23rd Street clinic in Fort Pierce (1701 S 23rd St, 772-462-3819). Call first to check which site offers what.

Safety and the law in Florida

Port St. Lucie is a quiet, suburban city, and we found no reports of anti-LGBTQ incidents there in 2025 or 2026. Same-sex couples can check into any hotel, and you're unlikely to have problems. But Florida's laws have moved against LGBTQ+ people in recent years, and visitors should know the main ones:

  • No state anti-discrimination protection. The Florida Civil Rights Act doesn't cover sexual orientation or gender identity. The state's human rights commission applied a 2021 interpretation that did, but it is no longer enforced. Port St. Lucie has no local ordinance either. The Human Rights Campaign's Municipal Equality Index scores the city 77 out of 100, and the city has an LGBTQ+ liaison in the executive office and in the police department.
  • Bathroom law (HB 1521, in force since July 2023). In government buildings, public schools, colleges and airports, restrooms and changing rooms must match the sex assigned at birth. It doesn't apply to private bars, restaurants or hotels.
  • Drag law (SB 1438). The law bans admitting minors to "adult live performances". Courts blocked it from 2023, but on 5 August 2026 the full 11th Circuit ruled 8-5 for the state and lifted the injunction, so it can now be enforced. Adult-only (21+) drag shows aren't affected; all-ages drag brunches are the ones at risk. The legal fight is continuing.
  • A 2026 bill to ban Pride flags on government buildings died in committee in March 2026.

Getting there and around

The main airport is Palm Beach International, renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport in July 2026 (code DJT since 18 August 2026), about 50 miles and an hour south. Melbourne Orlando International (MLB) is about 70 miles north, and Orlando International (MCO) is about two hours away by the Turnpike. Treasure Coast International in Fort Pierce has no scheduled passenger flights.

Brightline trains don't stop on the Treasure Coast: the nearest station is West Palm Beach, and the planned Stuart station lost its federal funding bid in August 2026. Locally, Area Regional Transit (ART) runs fare-free buses around St. Lucie County, but routes are sparse. You'll want a car.

Gone, or never there

  • "Gay bars in Port St. Lucie" lists: some travel sites have a generic "Gay Port St. Lucie" page with no actual venue on it. We found none.
  • Byrd Cage: one old list puts a gay bar of this name in Port St. Lucie. We couldn't verify it, so treat it as history at best.
  • Rebar (S Federal Hwy) is closed, and we found no sign it was ever a gay bar.
  • Vero Pride: last held in 2022, as far as we could find.

A few practical tips

  • Mets spring training runs from late February to late March at Clover Park; hotels in St. Lucie West fill up and get pricier then.
  • Hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November. Check forecasts and your hotel's cancellation policy if you travel in late summer.
  • Check the Sanctuary's social pages for dated events: that's where drag shows, socials and Pride announcements appear first.

よくある質問

No. We found no gay or lesbian bar in Port St. Lucie or anywhere else in St. Lucie and Martin counties in October 2026. The nearest are The Purple Lizard in Lake Park (about 45 miles south, opened October 2025) and Mad Hatter Lounge in Lake Worth Beach, about an hour south. Wilton Manors, South Florida's gay village, is about 1 hour 45 minutes away.

Treasure Coast PrideFest is held at the St. Lucie County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierce, about 20 minutes from central Port St. Lucie. The 2025 edition was on Sunday 1 June and the 2026 edition on Saturday 25 April, with a parade at 1pm. The organiser, The Sanctuary of the Treasure Coast, had not announced the 2027 date in October 2026.

Yes. The Sanctuary of the Treasure Coast, founded in Port St. Lucie in 2021, runs peer support groups, grief groups, and clinics for gender-affirming care and legal name changes. It was moving into a permanent space near US-1 and Prima Vista Boulevard in early 2026; check its website for the address and group times.

Not a gay beach as such. Blind Creek Beach on Hutchinson Island is the Treasure Coast's only official clothing-optional beach, and it's a naturist beach with strict rules: nudity only inside the marked zone, cover up in the car park, and no lewd behaviour. Eight people were arrested outside the zone in October 2025, so check current county notices first. Port St. Lucie itself has no ocean beach.

The Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie County offers free HIV and STI testing, and PrEP for uninsured people. It has a clinic at 5150 NW Milner Dr in Port St. Lucie (772-462-3925), and its main HIV service is at the 23rd Street clinic in Fort Pierce (772-462-3819). Call ahead to check services and appointments.

Generally yes: it's a quiet suburban city, and we found no reported anti-LGBTQ incidents in 2025 or 2026. Be aware of Florida law, though. There's no state or local anti-discrimination protection, a 2023 law restricts trans people's restroom use in government buildings and airports, and the drag law SB 1438 became enforceable in August 2026, which affects all-ages drag shows.
