The Hotel Salem

Excellent place, a pleasant and comfortable experience, definitely a welcoming place.

I've stayed here a dozen or more times. It is my go-to hotel for every stay in Salem. Highly recommend!

I booked a room at The Hotel Salem for one night while traveling through the area. Upon check-in the front desk staff was friendly, and check-in was quick and courteous. Unfortunately, what happened next was a serious safety concern. I was assigned Room 324. When I arrived, I noticed a “Do Not Disturb” sign hanging on the door. I assumed housekeeping had simply forgotten to remove it, so I used the room key I had just been given. As soon as I opened the door and started to walk in, I realized the TV was on, the bed was unmade, and someone was sleeping in the room. I immediately backed out, closed the door, and returned to the front desk. When I explained what had happened, the staff told me that no one should have been in that room and sent an employee to investigate. While they were checking, they offered me another room on the same floor (which felt unsafe to me). The employee later confirmed that someone was, in fact, inside the room. What concerns me most is that the hotel had assigned me a room they believed was vacant, yet someone was inside. Whether that person was an authorized occupant or someone who should not have been there, I have no way of knowing. Either scenario represents a serious safety and security concern. Being given a key to a room that was already occupied—or believed to be vacant when it wasn’t—caused me to lose confidence in the hotel’s ability to keep guests safe. To their credit, the staff canceled my reservation without issue. However, after this experience I no longer felt comfortable staying at the hotel. I stayed instead at the brand new Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Salem North, where I had a much better experience

An absolute dump horrible customer service and even ruder staff. Accusing somebody breaking a key when you did not program the key and it turns out the room door is broken and you don't even apologize for the accusations Or inconvenience. Not to mention the 20-minute wait I had to wait to even talk to anybody while people took personal phone calls

Excellent place. Highly recommended. Very comfortable. Not haunted by pirate ghosts... as far as I could tell anyhow.

We were in town for the Ironman competition and we had a great experience at Hotel Salem. On more than one occasion. Daniel at the front desk, helped us by answering questions and providing top notch service. He even helped us troubleshoot the AC unit in our room so that we didn't have to move rooms. Daniel treated us like "family" and we really appreciate it! We will definitely be back.

Called to book and they said we had rooms. Walked in 2 minutes later and he said they couldn't rent us one. We asked if our 6 year old could please use the bathroom at least because we had been in the car for hours looking for a hotel. He said nope.
