The honest summary: Indianapolis has six LGBTQ+ bars in 2026, and none of them is a big club. Four are within a 15-minute walk of each other on and around Mass Ave and the north edge of downtown; Greg's is a few blocks further north, and Sinners & Saints is a short drive south. Drinks are cheap by coastal standards, the crowds are mixed and local, and weekends are busiest. Lists that still send you to Talbott Street, Zonie's Closet, the Unicorn Club or the 501 Eagle are years out of date: all four have closed.

Mass Ave

Metro

707 Massachusetts Ave. Metro opened on New Year's Eve 1990 and is the closest thing the city has to a gay club. Its own site describes a 21+ restaurant, bar and nightclub with pub food, a dance floor, a fenced patio, weekly karaoke and DJs, and drag nights turn up on the calendar too. Bill Pritt, owner of the sushi restaurant FortyFive Degrees, bought it and shortened the name to plain Metro; he told the Indianapolis Business Journal he had no plans to change its role in LGBTQ nightlife. Google lists 5pm to 1am on weekdays, from 2pm at weekends, and until 3am on Friday and Saturday.

Tini

717 Massachusetts Ave, next door to Metro. A small martini and video bar with music videos on the screens, themed movie nights and DJs later in the week; reviewers describe a downstairs bar, a dance space upstairs and a little patio. Its site gives 4pm to midnight Sunday to Wednesday and 4pm to 3am Thursday to Saturday. Most people do Tini and Metro on the same night.

English Ivy's

944 N Alabama St, a block off Mass Ave. Gay-owned since 1999 and on Esquire's 2022 list of the best gay bars in America, it's a neighbourhood bar and kitchen rather than a party bar: a full pub menu, Monday trivia, a Friday prime-rib special, occasional drag and a patio. Open from 11am (10am on Sunday) until 2am. A good place to eat before heading to Metro.

Downtown and the Old Northside

Downtown Olly's

822 N Illinois St. Olly's has called itself Indy's gay bar since 2002 and works as an LGBTQ+ sports bar: wings, burgers and pizza, games on the screens, and a weekly calendar of karaoke, trivia, comedy and drag. For years it was open around the clock; it ended 24-hour service in 2022 after a rise in hate crimes and now runs 7am to 2:30am daily. It's the easiest gay bar to reach from the convention hotels.

Greg's

231 E 16th St, on the edge of the Old Northside. There's been a bar on this site since 1980; it became Greg's Our Place in 2002 and is now signed simply as Greg's. It's bigger than it looks, with a dance floor, pool, darts and a patio. Drag runs on Friday and Saturday from about 9pm for a small cover, with DJs afterwards, and the bar books touring Hard Candy drag shows. Google lists 4pm to 3am (3pm on Sunday). Cash only.

South side

Sinners & Saints

2849 Shelby St, by Garfield Park, a few minutes' drive south of Fountain Square. The newest bar on this list, it took over the space Google used to list as Shelby Street Tavern. Its Instagram calls it a queer bar and a sister to Sinners & Saints in Washington, DC, and its Google profile marks it as LGBTQ+-owned. Expect karaoke, trivia, games and a patio. Google lists Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 4pm to 11pm, Friday until 1am, Saturday until 2am and Sunday noon to 7pm; it's closed on Tuesday.

Drag and queer nights elsewhere

The White Rabbit Cabaret in Fountain Square isn't a gay bar, but it hosts the Power Drag Revue and regular queer burlesque. In Irvington, the queer-owned shop Hampton & Co. holds drag nights. Check our events page for dates.

What isn't there

    • No lesbian bar: The Ten closed in 2014.
    • No leather bar: the 501 Eagle closed in 2016. "The Eagle" on Mass Ave is a fried-chicken restaurant.
    • No big dance club: Talbott Street closed in June 2016.
    • Zonie's Closet closed in August 2022, and Out on Mass, a planned LGBTQ bar on Mass Ave, had not opened as of 2026.
    • The Chatterbox Jazz Club on Mass Ave is a good jazz bar, but not a gay one.

    Tips

    • All bars are 21+; bring ID.
    • Greg's takes cash only.
    • Metro, Tini and English Ivy's are walkable from each other; Greg's is about 15 minutes' walk north; Sinners & Saints needs a car or rideshare.
    • For a late finish, Metro, Tini and Greg's run until 3am on weekends, and both bathhouses are open 24 hours.
