Scenę barów dla gejów w Nowym Jorku dzieli się między dwa światy, które prawie się nie przenikają. Manhattan ma Hell's Kitchen i mniejszą pozostałość sceny w Chelsea i The Village. Brooklyn ma własną sieć queerowych barów i imprez w Bushwick, Williamsburg i Park Slope. W zależności od tego, czego oczekujesz od wieczoru, warto poznać oba miejsca.
Hell's Kitchen
Hell's Kitchen to miejsce, gdzie teraz chodzą większość gejów na Manhattanie. Koncentracja znajduje się wokół 9th Avenue od połowy lat 40. do połowy lat 50. Lokale obejmują szeroki wachlarz: bary sportowe, dive bary, cruise bary i kilka miejsc z regularnymi drag show i kabaretami. Większość tych barów zaczyna się zapełniać właściwie po północy w weekendy. Przyjście o 22:00 da ci miejsce, ale nie wiele atmosfery.
W przeciwieństwie do Gaixample w Barcelonie czy Marais w Paryżu, bary tutaj nie skupiają się na jednej czy dwóch ulicach. Są rozrzucone na kilka przecznic. To oznacza, że przechodzenie z baru do baru wymaga nieco więcej spacerowania, ale dystanse są nadal rozsądne do pokonania pieszo.

Chelsea i The Village

Myśl lokalnie, a nie turystycznie, tańsze drinki i imprezy, które się przenosią między lokale, zamiast być przywiązane do jednego adresu. Szczególnie Bushwick ma rotacyjny zestaw queerowych imprez. Park Slope ma bary, które działają od dziesięcioleci z lojalnością sąsiedzkiego grona. Williamsburg jest czymś pośrednim między tymi dwoma.
Dojazd z Midtown: linia L z 14th Street (8th Avenue) do Lorimer Street (Williamsburg) lub Morgan Avenue (Bushwick) zajmuje 20-30 minut. Linia F lub R do 4th Avenue / 9th Street obsługuje Park Slope.
