On Eje Central the noise never stops: organ grinders in khaki uniforms, vendors shouting over speakers, the smell of tacos al pastor turning on the spit, and the Torre Latinoamericana standing over it all. Walk past a phone-accessory stall, take a lift or a narrow staircase to an upper floor, and the street disappears. Mexico City's cruising lives above shops and behind intercoms: men-only clubs with darkrooms, mazes and dozens of cabins, most of them cheap and open from the afternoon. Add a few old baños de vapor, a handful of porn cinemas left over from the Centro's movie-palace days, and the apps everyone uses anyway. Here is what we could confirm for 2025 and 2026, and what has closed.
Legal in one line: sex between men is legal in Mexico, Mexico City has allowed same-sex marriage since 2010 and every Mexican state has done so since 2022. Cruise clubs and saunas are legal private venues for adults. Sex in public is a different matter: see the box on the law and safety below.
How cruising works in Mexico City
Chilangos (people from Mexico City) call these places clubes de encuentro or simply cuartos oscuros, darkrooms. They cluster in two areas. The Centro, along and around Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas between Metro Salto del Agua and Metro San Juan de Letrán, has the cheapest, busiest daytime clubs and the old cinemas. Zona Rosa in Colonia Juárez, the gay bar district around Calle Amberes and Génova, has the newer clubs and is where you'll go drinking afterwards. La Casita is a short ride south in Roma Norte. Most clubs open in the early afternoon, and some close by 10 p.m. You pay at a window, check your clothes or bag, and go in; many men strip to underwear or a towel.
Cruise clubs and darkrooms
Sexto Piso · Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas 123, 6th floor, Centro
The name means "sixth floor", and that's where you'll find it: take the lift at number 123. Time Out México, reviewing it in November 2025, describes a men-only club for over-18s with a maze, a large darkroom, private cabins of different sizes, glory holes, swings, a mirrored dome and a themed room fitted out like a Metro carriage, plus a simple bar. Weekends are the busiest; it hosts hard-techno nights and is a meeting point for leather and puppy groups, and Chilango has written about its leather and bear nights. Time Out gave entry as MXN 100–150. Travel Gay lists Monday to Thursday 14:00–22:00, Friday and Saturday 15:00–01:00 and Sunday 13:00–23:00; Time Out's own details differ slightly, so check before a late visit. Time Out also notes that AHF México often runs free HIV testing on site. Travel Gay calls it one of the more tourist-friendly clubs in the city.
Dallas Club · Génova 34, 2nd floor, Zona Rosa
Opened around 2022 by the team behind Sexto Piso, according to Out x Out, Dallas sits right in Zona Rosa, a few steps from the bars. Chilango described a jail-cell room, a darkroom with a sling, a room used for group sex, a porn cinema, mirrors on the ceiling and cubicles that look into other rooms; Out x Out adds cabins, a maze and a small bar and dancefloor. Out x Out describes a crowd mostly in their 20s and 30s. Chilango gave entry as MXN 150 in 2023, and the price varies by day and time. Saturday's Rieles Dallas party is the busiest night.
La Casita CDMX · Avenida Insurgentes Sur 228, Roma Norte
A discreet house on Insurgentes with darkrooms, couches and beds; Travel Gay calls it rough and ready and warns that door staff may not speak English. Its value is the clock: Out x Out lists it daily from 15:00 to 07:00, which makes it the late-night option after the Zona Rosa bars close. Hours have changed over the years, so check its Facebook page, La Casita CDMX, before crossing town in the small hours.
Funny Love · Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas 76, 2nd floor, Centro
Upstairs from a phone-accessory shop, a short walk from Metro San Juan de Letrán. You enter through a sex shop (lingerie, toys, condoms, lube) and buy your ticket at the till; behind it is a maze of corridors with more than 70 cabins, some with screens, and a darkroom behind a plastic curtain. Time Out México, in August 2025, gave daily 10:00–21:00 and MXN 100, with the ticket exchangeable for a drink at the bar. The crowd is mostly local and of all ages, and it's a daytime-to-evening place rather than a late one. Time Out also reported that a second branch had recently opened in Zona Rosa; ask at either for its hours.
Club Antifaz Chabacano · Calzada Chabacano 65, 1st floor, Asturias
The surviving central branch of a small chain, above a pharmacy near Metro Chabacano. Out x Out lists a darkroom, private cabins, a maze, a video room, a clothes check and a small bar, open daily 14:00–22:00, with a local, mostly working-class crowd. It's a no-frills sex club, not a bar. A second branch, Club Antifaz Universidad (Avenida Antonio Delfín Madrigal 110-A, Coyoacán, near UNAM), is listed by Travel Gay and Out x Out with cabins, a darkroom and a bar.
Where to start the night
None of these is a darkroom club, but they're where the evening starts. Tom's Leather Bar in Hipódromo-Condesa is the city's long-running men's leather bar, with a darkroom that Time Out México has written about. In Zona Rosa, Grindr's 2026 city guide picks out El Almacén (Florencia 37-B), a cruising bar with a retro look that recalls an older era of gay nightlife. For the rest, see our Mexico City bars guide.
Baños de vapor and saunas
Mexico City still has neighbourhood baños de vapor, steam baths that open early for men on their way to work, and some have long been gay meeting places. Alongside them are modern gay saunas with bars, DJs and themed nights. Both kinds work as cruising venues. The full list is on our Mexico City saunas page.
- Sodome · Calzada General Mariano Escobedo 716-A, Anzures. Grindr's 2026 guide calls it one of the city's best-known gay bathhouses, spread over several levels; Out x Out describes a club-and-sauna hybrid with a bar, DJs and themed nights.
- Baños Finisterre · Manuel María Contreras 11, San Rafael. An old-school steam bath with steam rooms, a sauna and massage, recommended in Grindr's 2026 guide. Chilango wrote in 2023 that there is always activity, that regulars recommend Sundays and that entry was about MXN 100; Out x Out lists it as open daily from 06:00.
- Baños Señorial (Centro Histórico) and Club Olimpo (Zona Rosa) are also listed by Out x Out, the first with steam, private rooms and a barber's, the second with steam, a jacuzzi, a maze and a bar. We couldn't confirm their 2026 hours, so ask before you go.
- Cine Savoy · 16 de Septiembre 4, in the Pasaje Savoy. Opened in 1943 as a family cinema and switched to adult films in the 1970s, according to Chilango. It has separate gay and straight screens and is known in the gay community; online reports describe activity in the main room, the toilets and the upstairs corridors.
- Cinema Río · República de Cuba 85. A 1948 cinema that became an adult cinema in the 1990s, according to Chilango, which describes a mainly straight-couples crowd; Out x Out lists a men-only screening room with active cruising.
- Cine Venus · República de Chile. A small mid-century cinema that Out x Out calls one of the Centro's last XXX cinemas, with cruising in the balcony.
- Club Antifaz: the Salto del Agua (Eje Central 130) and Zona Rosa branches appear to have closed; only Chabacano and Universidad are still listed.
- Club Antifaz Tacubaya (Avenida Jalisco 203) is still listed by Travel Gay, but we found no 2025–2026 confirmation.
- Poseidón (José María Iglesias 140, Tabacalera) and Babylon (Insurgentes Norte 162, Santa María la Ribera) were described by Chilango in 2023; we couldn't confirm either for 2026.
- Cine Teresa (Eje Central) became a shop around 2010, and La Estación on Hamburgo is long gone.
- City law: Mexico City's Ley de Cultura Cívica lists offences against people's dignity in Article 26. Fraction X covers exhibiting your genitals with the intention of bothering or assaulting someone; police can take you before a judge only if the person affected complains. Cases go to a juez cívico (civic judge), and penalties range from a warning to a fine, community work or a short arrest. The same law is applied to sex on the Metro and other public transport.
- Police: if officers approach you, stay calm and polite, and carry a copy of your passport. A civic offence is dealt with by a juez cívico, so don't hand over cash in the street.
- App robberies: in January 2026 Excélsior reported the arrest in Miguel Hidalgo of three men accused of arranging Grindr dates in victims' homes, drugging them and emptying the flat. N+ has reported drugging and robbery through dating apps in Mexico City since 2019, and the city police's cyber unit has warned about extortion with intimate images and a case of deprivation of liberty arranged through Grindr in Benito Juárez.
- Red flags: requests for money or phone top-ups, pressure for intimate photos, an immediate move to WhatsApp, a refusal to video-call, or a first date at an isolated address. Meet first in a bar or café, keep your drink in your hand, share your location with a friend and never unlock your phone or banking apps for anyone.
- Outdoors: in the Alameda or on the UNAM campus, carry only your phone, one card and a little cash, stay where it's lit and busy, and don't follow anyone into a quiet corner.
- Emergency: call 911.
- Cash: carry pesos in small notes for entry and the bar. Funny Love takes cards; elsewhere, don't count on it.
- Lockers and phones: use the clothes check or locker, leave your passport and spare cards at the hotel, and never take photos inside.
- Dress code: none at the daytime clubs; for leather, puppy or underwear nights at Sexto Piso or Dallas, check the event post first.
- Getting around: the Metro is cheap and useful for the Centro clubs by day, but it closes around midnight. At night, order cars only through the Uber or DiDi app, book from inside the venue and step out when it's at the door, checking the plate first. Don't hail taxis on the street or accept rides offered at the door.
- Altitude: the city sits at about 2,240 metres, so alcohol hits harder and you dehydrate faster than at sea level. Drink water before a steam room, and go easy on drink on your first night.
- Consent: "no" is enough, in any room, at any time.
- Chems: if GHB/GBL is around, never mix it with alcohol and never dose for someone else.
- Health: if a condom breaks, PEP must start within 72 hours. The city's Clínica Especializada Condesa (General Benjamín Hill 24, Hipódromo Condesa; condesa.cdmx.gob.mx) offers free tests for HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B and C, provides PrEP and emergency PEP, and was listed in 2023 as open Monday to Friday 07:00–18:00; call or go as early as you can after a risk. A second Clínica Condesa is in Iztapalapa (Combate de Celaya 352). Mexico's public CAPASITS clinics offer testing and prevention across the country. Out of hours, go to a hospital emergency department and ask for "PEP".
- ¿Cuánto cuesta la entrada? – how much is entry?
- Cuarto oscuro – darkroom. Cabina – cabin. Paquetería – clothes or bag check.
- Casillero – locker. Toalla – towel. Efectivo – cash.
- Ligar – to pick someone up. Ligue – a pick-up.
- Activo / pasivo / inter – top / bottom / versatile.
- Chacal – a rugged, working-class type. Buga – a straight person.
- Condón – condom. Baños de vapor – steam baths.
- ¿Qué onda? – what's up? ¡Qué padre! – how cool!
- No, gracias – no, thanks. Always enough.
In the old baños, follow the rules of any traditional bathhouse: keep your towel on in the shared areas, take your cue from the regulars, never assume, and keep your phone in the locker.
Porn cinemas of the Centro
The Centro Histórico was once full of picture palaces, and a few survive as cines porno. They are dark, cheap, old and not always clean, and Time Out México warned years ago that the Savoy is not the safest of spaces, so take as little as possible.
The most recent detailed press coverage we found for the cinemas dates from 2022, so treat hours and prices as unknown and go in daylight.
Closed or uncertain:
Outdoors and in public
Two public places have a long gay history. The Alameda Central, the park beside the Palacio de Bellas Artes, has been a meeting place for gay men for generations; today it is a busy city park full of families, vendors and tourists. The green paths of Ciudad Universitaria, the UNAM campus in the south, have a similar reputation, but this is a working university and a UNESCO World Heritage site with its own security staff: you are a visitor there, so follow the campus rules and leave when it empties. Being gay in either place is legal; sex in public is not, and the main everyday risk is robbery, which rises as the crowds thin out. The clubs above are open every day and cost less than a taxi.
The law and your safety:
A chilango night, the local way
Start with an icy michelada, beer with lime, salt and chilli, or a mezcal sipped slowly with orange slices and sal de gusano. Dinner is a plate of tacos al pastor from a street stand, the pork shaved straight off the trompo, the spinning vertical spit, and finished with a sliver of pineapple flicked from the top. The Centro still has old pulquerías where you can try pulque, the thick, slightly sour drink made from agave sap. After the clubs, a late torta or a bowl of pozole does the job, and the chilango way to end the night, or start the morning after, is a plate of spicy chilaquiles with a sweet, cinnamon-scented café de olla.
Practical tips
Pride
The Marcha del Orgullo LGBTTTIQ+ is usually held on the last Saturday of June. The 48th march took place on Saturday 27 June 2026 under the slogan "Ante los ojos del mundo: mi lucha es tu lucha. ¡Igualdad, paz y solidaridad!". It gathered at the Ángel de la Independencia in the morning and marched about four kilometres along Paseo de la Reforma, Avenida Juárez, Eje Central and 5 de Mayo towards the Zócalo. Because Mexico City was a World Cup host, FIFA's Fan Fest was also running in the square; after talks with the authorities, organisers agreed that the march would still end there and that the closing concerts would move to the area around Bellas Artes and Eje Central.

Frequently asked questions
Where is gay cruising in Mexico City?
Mostly indoors, in men-only clubs with darkrooms, mazes and cabins. Sexto Piso and Funny Love are on Eje Central in the Centro, Dallas is on Génova in Zona Rosa, La Casita is on Insurgentes Sur in Roma Norte and Club Antifaz is in Asturias, near Metro Chabacano. The old baños de vapor and a few porn cinemas in the Centro Histórico complete the picture.
How much does a cruise club cost in Mexico City?
Not much. Time Out México gave MXN 100 to 150 for Sexto Piso in November 2025 and MXN 100 including a drink for Funny Love in August 2025, and Chilango gave MXN 150 for Dallas in 2023. Prices rise on party nights, so carry pesos in small notes.
Are there gay saunas in Mexico City?
Yes. Sodome in Anzures, which Grindr's 2026 city guide calls one of the best-known gay bathhouses, and Baños Finisterre in San Rafael, an old-school steam bath that Out x Out lists as a gay sauna. Both were still recommended in 2026; see our Mexico City saunas page for the full list.
Is outdoor cruising legal in Mexico City?
Being gay in a park is legal; sex in public is not. Mexico City's Ley de Cultura Cívica treats exposing your genitals to bother someone as an offence against dignity, judged by a juez cívico, and robbery and extortion are the bigger everyday risks. The indoor clubs are the safer choice.
When was Mexico City Pride 2026?
The 48th Marcha del Orgullo took place on Saturday 27 June 2026, from the Ángel de la Independencia along Reforma, Avenida Juárez and 5 de Mayo towards the Zócalo, where FIFA's World Cup Fan Fest was also running. It normally falls on the last Saturday of June.
