Booked a room for 2 adults and 2 kids for a 2-night stay. 20th June 2026 - 22nd June 2026 We checked in during the evening after returning our campervan, and after driving almost 4 hours from Oamaru, we were completely exhausted. The reception staff were friendly, bubbly, and welcoming. One of them even reminded me of Emma Myers (Enid from Wednesday), which gave us a good laugh. After the long drive, we were hungry and decided to order room service. We had the Beef Brisket Burger, Grilled Gurnard Fish, and Focaccia Garlic Bread with Butter. The food was fantastic. My wife and I practically devoured everything within minutes. We absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, that was where the positives ended. The bathroom was honestly one of the most impractical hotel bathrooms I've ever used. For context, I'm Asian, 171 cm tall, and around 90 kg. I'm not particularly broad-shouldered, nor am I built like Santa Claus, yet it was difficult to move around comfortably. The bathroom's half-circle design felt cramped, and the sliding shower door inside the already small space made things even more awkward. It may look unique, but it's a poorly thought-out design in terms of usability. After a hot shower, we settled in for the night. The kids loved the bunk beds, and the semi-firm mattresses seemed comfortable enough as they had no complaints. Then came the worst part of the stay: the master bed. The pillows were ridiculously thin, and the mattress was unbelievably soft. The best way I can describe it is like sleeping on a waterbed. It felt wavy and offered almost no support. No matter how I positioned myself, I couldn't lie comfortably or keep my back straight. I genuinely considered sleeping on the floor because my back was aching. Spending two nights on that mattress was not pleasant at all. Overall: ⭐ 10/10 for the food ⭐ Excellent and friendly reception staff ⭐ Comfortable bunk beds for the kids ❌ Extremely cramped bathroom design ❌ One of the softest and most uncomfortable hotel beds I've ever slept on If you're considering staying in Christchurch, I'd suggest spending a little more and booking Novotel or Ibis, both of which are just a street away.

This is the perfect place to stay in Christchurch. Smack dab in the middle of the CBD, a 4 min walk to any bus and a great price for the value!

Breakfree on Cashel was fantastic. The room was compact but immaculate. Huge comfortable bed, toilet, bathroom amd shower 🚿 amenities to make a cup of complimentry tea or coffee ☕️ and a small fridge. It was the perfect base while I was in Christchurch. Downstairs a beautiful bar and restaurant area were available for buffet breakfast or a la carte meals. You could also order room service from a delicious menu. And free wifi and use of the gym amd laundry were imcluded. Nestled amongst a fabulous shopping area and a 5 minute walk to Cathedral Square, Riverpark Market, The Bridge of Remembrance, the Avon River amd a bevy of shops that include H and M, Lululemon, Glassons, Mecca and many other retail shops plus a bevy of enticing bars and restaurants along the river. Breakfree on Cashel is a really reasonable hotel being that it is in the midst of all the scenery and city life that Christchurch has to offer. It is literally a walk to the new stadium also, which is a bonus for fans of music and sport. Highly recommend 👌 I will definitely be ataying here again ✨️

The hotel's location is fantastic; I would definitely stay here again if I come to Christchurch. The room is small, which is fine; I checked the size carefully when booking. However, the light in our room was broken! It was infuriating. The light strip couldn't be turned off and kept flickering. After flickering a few times, it stayed on continuously and couldn't be turned off. I could only cover it with tissues. We were only staying for a few days, and because we're a bit of a clean freak, we had the entire room thoroughly cleaned and disinfected upon check-in, so we didn't want anyone coming in to repair it during our stay. Looking back, that was silly; we should have told the hotel front desk immediately and had maintenance staff come to check and fix it. That way, we wouldn't have had to sleep with the light on for several nights! Haha. If it gets dirty, room service can clean it; you can just wipe it down yourself. We spent a whole day exploring the beautiful town of Akaroa. The hotel is just a short walk from the bus stop, which is very convenient. We were very satisfied. There's a pedestrian street next to the hotel, and a large supermarket is within walking distance. The breakfast buffet was satisfactory; it was standard English style, with scrambled eggs, sausages, beans, potato pancakes, and fruit.
