On July 10th, 2026, they gave us a room with no wardrobe, and if you turned on the air conditioning, the air smelled like sewer urine. The room was 239. To top it all off, I was bitten by a spider, which triggered an allergic reaction. It was a terrible night, and we paid €100 for a night in a room that left much to be desired.

Hotel located in the worst neighborhood of Bilbao. They threw urine at us from a balcony onto the street in front of the hotel. Urine! The hotel deserves two stars at most, but after what happened today, don't go near this neighborhood. The worst scum in all of Bilbao lives here.

showed up early to the hotel as I got into Bilbao early. My first impression was a bit disappointed as I walked in and the reception area smelled of cigarettes. I was assured smoking is not allowed inside but it appears that people smoke right outside the front door that remains open due to the fact that people are standing right by the automatic doors which naturally do not close and the smoke/smell comes in to the reception area. As the room was not ready (understandably) they kindly offered to store my luggage in a secure storage area which I appreciated. I left and returned later in the evening around 9:00pm. Upon my return the first things I noticed is that the door to the secure baggage storage area was open and I could see my suitcase and bag there. I realise the reception person is across from that room but it did not feel very reassuring to see the door open and to be looking directly at my suitcase from the check-in desk. Also the lobby smelled of cigarette smoke. After checking in I went upstairs to my room. It was just after 9:00pm. The corridor where my room was smelled of cigarette smoke and there were three laundry cages (on wheels) in the corridors. The room and sheets looked. However there was a corner missing on the floor exposing the raw edge of the section of the floor that was a few centimetres higher than the rest of the floor, the cover plate on the light switch for the bathroom was missing so you could see the metal box, wall and behind the wires, the shower doors were off the rails so you could not open and close them, there was a long black hair on the sink. It felt like a contrast, a bed that had been made but a room that was not really cared for or the hotel that was not being kept to a proper standard. After spending a week in Sotres (Picos de Europa) in a two star hotel this hotel felt like a one star hotel. I was disappointed that I decided not to spend the 2 nights I had booked and I left. I emailed the Hotel directly over a week ago. I even sent them photos with my request to show them the issues I had with the room. I requested a refund and said I would be satisfied with a 50% refund, basically for the second night. I did not hear anything. I contacted Booking.com but have not had any response from them either. I would not stay at this hotel if you prefer a place that does not smell of cigarette smoke and also like to feel that the room is not only clean but cared for and kept in good working condition. I have knowingly stayed in properties with no running water and composting toilets so I am not being precious. I just did not get what I was expecting and getting something much better did not end up really cost that much more (If I ignore the fact that I have not gotten even a 50% refund) so they could not sell the state of the room on the price either.

This hotel, if you can even call it that, was awful. After passing reception, to get to the rooms, you have to walk through a building full of closed/abandoned shops and businesses, and it's very unsanitary. The room was dirty, with terrible soundproofing, and what can I say about the pillows... I think a sheet of paper would have relieved my neck pain. They are, however, very committed to the environment, as there was a good amount of mold in the refrigerator and cockroaches on the floor of the room... In short, a disgrace.

The room was clean and the service at the front desk was pleasant. The price-quality ratio of Hotel Lidar is excellent.

The location is close to the center, but our room smelled awfully of cigarette smoke. The furnishings were poorly maintained and the bed was uncomfortable. The price was exorbitant.
