Number 52 Sauna

Love this place. Staff are so friendly and the community there are great! Could do with a spruce up inside, but I've heard this is happening shortly. Well worth a regular visit though.

A word of warning to first time visitors, I'm adding this review as the website wording is not transparent and actually misleading regarding member and non members entry fees. You cannot gain membership until you have paid for one full price entry fee on your first visit which will be either £20 or £22 irrespective if your visit time is discounted for members. The website states: "We are the only sauna in Newcastle to offer all new customers free membership" And "simply pop in and see us we’ll get you registered instantly (for membership)" Both of these sentences suggest you can be a member immediately and pay the member fees which isn't the case. Nobody likes feeling ripped off, which I did, as I expected to pay a lower Sunday pre noon entrance fee, and planned my day accordingly. Had I of known it would be £20 until closing I would have gone later or in the evening. The wording needs to be changed to reflect this, stating membership can only be applied after paying one full price admittance. If that's the policy fine, but please be upfront about it. Hence two stars, (should be 2.5 really) besides the feeling of being conned the sauna is unremarkable and on the same level as most other UK provincial saunas. Actual sauna is too small can only fit three or max four people in, but more cruising area than I expected and the steam room was okay although should be indicated with a sign, as I only found it accidentally. I entered after getting off a national express at 11.30 am and there was more in than expected. I did get what I wanted but it's the unclear admission fees im protesting about.

Just hours ago, it was my first time to go to the Sauna52. To be clear, I used to go to gay sauna in Turkey (gay Hamam) and Malaysia. So, the scenes were not at all new to me. Also, I knew why I went to Sauna52, less because of being curious but more because of seeking the fragrance and warmth of male partners. Finally, I said that; I missed the scent of male mates. The entrance fee was £20, equivalent to two trips to Tesco. Yet, as it is the first time, it was worth the money. Also, while keeping the receipt, if you return to the sauna in 7 days, your next trip will be £12. For winter, it is more likely. For the hot summer, it may be a torture unless you plan the events you want to go. To me, today was enough. The sauna has one dry room, one wet steam room, three floors but the corridors were not wide and the spaces were not spacious. There were some rooms for xxx cinemas. I also think that the sign board (on floor 2 I think) was too bright. There was one small jacuzzi bathtub and I think the owner could expand it much more since the room the jacuzzi was in was not wholly occupied. That was, the jacuzzi was pitifully small. There were dark rooms. Today was not the blackout day and was already this dark. In the blackout event, I guess we just need to close our eyes and move like zombies. All in all, everything was decent for the price. I had good time too, mostly to reflect on my life and what I was doing there. I encountered kind people, as in during interactions, I felt their gentleness and not aggressiveness. For that, I was grateful. In sum, you should visit Sauna52. If you are young, maybe your journey to explore yourself will begin here. If you are old, you know that after you leave the sauna, you will be back to your life, the life of hidden desires and/or loneliness. I give the Sauna 5 stars. Just one thing: the dark room on the second floor needs to be vented and cleaned properly (and astoundingly, the dark rooms on the third floor were not much occupied, as if it is too tiring for people to climb there, or maybe I just left early past midnight…). Love the place and have done for alot of years, but recently things have started to change, the customer numbers are dwindling. Only real criticism I've got is that the cafe bar area need more adequate seating for chunkier men and more sockets for charging phones.

It was my first time sat night ever the staff where so pleasant. The venue was very clean and tidy am definitely going to go to venue again only down side was hot tub wasn't working.
