Brasília BRL 02:13 GMT-03:00 Muito seguro para LGBTQ+
✓ Relações entre pessoas do mesmo sexo legais ✓ Casamento entre pessoas do mesmo sexo ✓ Eventos de Pride ⚖️ Brazil has had same-sex marriage nationwide since 16 May 2013 by order of the National Council of Justice, following a 2011 Supreme Court ruling recognising stable unions. Same-sex couples adopt on equal terms, legal gender change has been available without surgery or diagnosis since 2018, and in 2019 the Supreme Court ruled that homophobia and transphobia are crimes under the racism law. Conversion therapy has been banned by the psychology council since 1999 and gay and bisexual men have donated blood freely since 2020. Same-sex relations have been legal since 1830. The courts have kept moving: in 2023 anti-LGBTQ hate speech was equated with racial insult, in 2025 the domestic violence law was extended to trans women and male same-sex couples. The counterweight is violence. Brazil records more murders of LGBTQ people, especially trans women, than any other country, several hundred a year by activist counts. São Paulo Pride is the largest in the world, and Rio, Salvador, Florianópolis and Recife all have big scenes.
