The rocky headland of Morro do Cristo, by the Christ statue between Porto da Barra and the Barra lighthouse, is a long-standing after-dark gay cruising (pegação) spot documented across local guides. Same-sex activity is legal in Brazil, but public sex remains an offence (ato obsceno) and the area has repeated reports of robberies and homophobic assaults after dark — go with discretion, avoid carrying valuables, and be aware of hustlers. Best treated as at-your-own-risk; the daytime beach at Porto da Barra is the safer social alternative.
