Elmwood Heritage Inn

TLC has been neglected at The Elmwood. Our room was worn and tired. The wallpaper was pealing and several sections were not adhered to the wall. Fir the price we paid, we expected much better conditions. Because of the lack of TLC and general upkeep, I can not recommend the Inn.

During our road trip through Canada, we stayed 3 nights at the Elmwood Heritage Inn PEI. When you actually find the correct driveway, the house does looked impressive. We were not impressed with the owner. From the beginning, she was not welcoming. We were shown to our room, and the room looked nice. However, the bathroom tub and shower was very deep, and there were no handrails. I am very small in stature, and I felt very unsafe getting in and out of the tub/shower. We asked the owner if they could supply us with ice, and they said, we will put you a container of ice in the fridge. They did. It was a very small Tupperware container. The next day, we asked if we could get extra ice. The reply was, "well, I guess I can give your more". They did, the next morning there were 2 small containers of ice. We are from the Southern USA, and I guess we expected the owners to be a little friendly, especially when you are paying those kind of rates. John and Nancy Fetter

Extremely beautiful house. My room was very lovely and clean. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious. The best breakfasts I have ever had. The hosts were very friendly.

The Elmwood Heritage Inn looms above you and gives Addams Family vibes as you're climbing the steps to the front porch. For us, it was perfect as we love these old places and we loved the Elmwood! The grounds are very well-maintained, there is a lovely sitting area out front and there is loads of parking. We were greeted at the front door by a little Japanese lady. She was friendly as she checked us in. She gave us a map of the area and explained how to get to the downtown area - which is a hop, skip and a jump away. We actually took our bikes and toured the whole downtown core easily. Very well-located! As we were gathering our luggage from the car, one of the owners, a super friendly Chinese man, came out and grabbed all our bags and hauled them straight up to our room. Wonderful service! Our room was on the second floor. The stairs are a little narrow and steep and they curve at the top which is pretty much a given in these old Victoria homes so don't bring a giant, bus-sized suitcase like I did. You will struggle. The room was huge and so comfy! We had a big, Queen-sized bed and a little sitting area with two fluffy, high-backed chairs that you sank into. The bathroom was large and bright and had one of those old-fashioned claw foot tubs with the shower curtain that goes all the way around. Everything was very neat and clean. We had loads of extra towels, a hair dryer, iron (which came in handy!) and lots of extra toiletries like soaps, razor blades, cotton balls, etc. As this is a heritage inn, the décor is verrrrry antique right down to the gaudy floral wallpaper, the paintings on the wall, the furniture and the crocheted cover for the tissue boxes so if you're expecting an ultra-modern Hilton-type place, this isn't the place for you. Rather, it is like stepping back in time to something out of Road to Avonlea but it fits and gives the inn a lovely authentic feel. But rest assured that modern conveniences such as wifi, AC and cable television are in all the rooms. The only drawback - which isn't really a drawback but rather my own personal pettiness - they don't clean your room everyday like other hotels. We stayed two days and there was no change of towels, making of the bed, general tidying, etc. I'm a snotty, spoiled traveler (ha!) who loves clean towels and a made bed so I noticed straight away when it wasn't done. But did it ruin our trip? Absolutely not! We looooved our stay at the Elmwood! It had everything we wanted, the owners / staff were lovely and we'd recommend it to anyone headed into the Charlottetown area. We fully plan to stay there again.

If you stay in the Cook's Room, they have Ratatouille on DVD and the shower had two showerheads.

This was my second time at the Elmwood. I love the historic house and all of its furnishings. The manager of the house treated us as family. I suggest getting the breakfasts while there. Those are optional, but they are a nice way to start the morning.

This is a beautiful house in a neighborhood perfect for walking and exploring Charlottetown. The bed is comfortable and the room spacious. This is also, in our opinion, owned by people who are not meant to run an inn or bed and breakfast. We booked our room two months in advance. When we arrived, we were met by the owner, who said we were being upgraded because the owners were leaving for their son's swim match. We were the only guests in this eight room inn. Further, we were told there was no breakfast but we were given vouchers that they thought had credit, to be used for breakfast in town. The owner hurredly outlined information about the room, and because English was not the first language, we did not fully understand the information. We had to ask for coffee for the coffee pot and only learned after the owners left that there were no coffee filters, no cream or milk, no soap, and we were given one log for the fire (for our two night stay). We were given no contact information for anyone. We essentially felt abandoned. We tried to use the partial vouchers and learned their value was significantly less then reported. The worst piece was realizing none of the windows could open, and we witnessed the owner locking doors - and we worried about what we might do in case of fire in this old house. Although the owners did give us a refund equal to two day's breakfast, we strongly believe the owners should have contacted us as soon as they knew they would have no one to act as host and given us the option to rebook elsewhere. The entire experience felt unsafe and highly disturbing.

My wife and i stayed there for 4 nights . Perfect location in Charlottetown .. 20 minute walk to downtown restuarants . The Library room we had at this B&B was really nice and clean. Every breakfast we had was very good quality and taste. All Covid protocols are being followed and we felt very safe. They were helpful for me as they allowed me to charge my Tesla one night as the Tesla Supercharger in town wasnt commissioned until our 3rd day we were there . Its a very old house very tastefully decorated with antiques ..

Great value but does need to update the interior look. Very clean and nice owners.
