Carmel Wayfarer Inn

A very welcoming hostel with very friendly staff located in a beautiful town.

We had a great experience there. Staff was very kind and the room cozy and nice.

Absolutely fantastic place to stay. Mike is a wonderful host and the place is centrally located to everything in Carmel.

I booked a four-night stay at Carmel Wayfarer Inn and had to leave within minutes due to unsafe and unsanitary conditions. The room had visible mold throughout the bathroom, a used and unflushed toilet, holes in the walls, pet hair on the bed, and a strong mold odor throughout the entire room. Because of these conditions, the room was uninhabitable and I did not stay any of the nights. The hotel manager, Mike, refused to issue a refund despite the health and safety concerns. It was also nearly impossible to get a hold of anyone by phone, and no one was ever available at the front desk when assistance was needed. This was an extremely disappointing and concerning experience. I would not recommend this property, especially to families or anyone with health concerns. Update: After a few days The manager finally granted approval on the refund request so I am updating my rating.

We had a great stay at Wayfarer Inn! The staff was genuinely friendly and helpful, which made the experience feel easy from start to finish. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the common areas were thoughtfully designed and inviting. Overall, it was an incredible value for the quality and atmosphere. I would happily stay here again.

Mike keep my money. Due to the weather I couldn't make and was only refunded $22.00 he keep over $300..

First, great location. Everything goes down from there. The door is not secure to lock, beds are uncomfortable, and bathroom not clean. Found another persons hair on the towel. Definitely do not ever recommend. I would never stay here again. Spend a little more to stay in something nicer or stay in Monterey.

I feel like the photos don’t do this place justice! I was pleasantly surprised by how cozy and spacious the room was. The king bed was very comfortable, there’s a good amount of surfaces and closet space to store your belongings, and I was surprised to discover a door to another room of two twin beds! Had more space than I needed. The fireplace is a cool touch. I honestly forgot there was even a partial view of the ocean, so that was a nice touch. The water in the shower heats up quickly which was great for chilly evenings or mornings in late October. It’s super walkable to all the restaurants and shops in the town, and also to the beach for a bit of a longer walk (it’s uphill back into the main area). Everything was super clean and I appreciate that there were things like an ice bucket, plastic cups, plenty of shampoo, conditioner & body wash. Would definitely recommend this spot as it’s cheaper than the fancier trendier spots, but ticks off all the boxes of what you need. My only suggestion would be to have a filtered water tap somewhere, in addition to the ice machine. But I didn’t really look in the lobby area so maybe there was something there. Also parking was easy even if you can’t manage to get one of the on-site spots.

Enjoyed a one night stay at this very nice and conveniently located inn. We had a very comfortable room and experienced very friendly and hospitable staff.
