U Street Hostel

First time in a capsule hotel… it’s an older building, a little rundown, but clean. Capsule beds are very clean and cozy, but you can hear everyone coming and going etc. In the room. Could not hear street noise. Everyone in the room was very kind and quiet, so got a decent nights sleep. Not the most comfortable mattress (a bit thin), but good air flow in the capsule. Clean rollers and sinks (didn’t use showers so can’t comment on that). Helpful staff, very nice common areas on first floor. Overall, a good stay for an overnight.

Excellent location! You can easily find a bus stop nearby to get to the National Mall in 30 minutes or less. The subway is also close by. There's a CVS on the corner. The staff works set hours but is incredibly friendly. The showers are in the basement; there are four, including one specially designed for people with disabilities. Everything is very clean, and there are several hair dryers (clothes dryers are also available for $5.00). There's a very cozy cafe on the first floor where guests get a discount. The place has a table outside to enjoy the afternoon. I loved the capsules; inside, there's a lamp, an outlet, and some hooks to hang your things. There's also a locker for a large backpack or carry-on, and a place inside the room to open your luggage. I was on the third floor, and there was a separate restroom for men and women, but the sinks are shared. Food isn't allowed inside the capsules. Around 11 pm, they ask for quiet for those who are sleeping. I was so exhausted that I didn't hear a thing! People of all ages come, but in my experience, everyone was very respectful. I highly recommend it and will definitely return on another trip to Washington.

The problem is the safe is empty. The lockers are broken.

Stayed here for a vacation. Location is amazing with quick metro access, tons of food, and a really cool night life. Hostel was very pleasant, the private room was super nice and homey. Check in uses an app I had never heard of, but was super easy. Everyone was polite but minded their own business, not much social gathering (but if you're an introvert like me, that's a positive!). Will absolutely stay here again next time I am in town

Satisfactory experience! Self check-in via an app with codes for the doors was quite simple. The capsules are unique, but the USB-C port didn't work in my capsule, and there wasn't a regular power outlet, so I had to find a workaround... The showers and toilets were clean. The location is fantastic, just steps from the metro and a Trader Joe store, with the option to leave bags during the day.

I stayed in the female only dorm and everyone was very respectful coming in/out. The bed was clean and private BUT nothing worked in my pod which made things hard especially charging my phone so I could take the metro and keep in contact with others. The capsules are also plastic and practically falling apart. I was pretty diappointed with what I got for the price but is what it is.

Firstly they force you to download an app. If you don t get that app you will be locked out for hours as they wrote it. To download their app it needs internet. Their internet isn t working. There is no one there. It s just clients who help you with the few they know. The price is way too high for the lowest quality of service " self checking " and no human isn t there to get your check in done with internet not working . It lost its quality from 5 years ago when i came here. Their app says if you need to call us, i click on call the phone number is : 0 ! .. The bed was stinky, the plastic wall was damaged, the reading lamps weren t working, the mirror light weren t either working, you can t even report that to no one. For the people who think this is " futuristic" not at all. It s degraded. Everything is plastic similar to a plastic tomb. You can get those at your home for reasonable price on internet it will be at least new . I knew this hostel 6 years before the price was 10-20 $. And now the prices are as you see with exactly the same old plastic capsule bed. And No Reception nor personal to help out in anything. With a self check out that is so disfunctional and barely working. I Highly do not recommend it anymore, choose a safer place, more secure, and more reliable, with the price worth for the quality. This is really a scam. I wanted a refund, i had to go out to different coffees to look for the wifi to connect and download in the way they demand us to do, it took me over 2h follow their writting and plus it was a former client who himself provided his own data to their ipad for people to check in. Such a shame. That even we can rely more on former clients than their own ridiculous unreliable stingy unoperational system . Imagine if this happened in the night time with their " 24h Self check in ? Their capsule date from Mathusalem. Do not fall for plastic futuristic capsules that date 10 years ago, and all mostly broken and damaged. Fortunately i stayed just 1 night. Never again

I had a great experience at U street Hostel. I was concerned because of the mixed reviews. I prayed & decided to give it a chance. Im glad I did. I am a solo woman traveler frm NYC. I stayed at U street Hostel for a few days. Lets get into it..... THE NEIGHBORHOOD: clean, lively,  not overly crowded, not loud like NYC lol. SAFETY:felt very safe at the hostel.  They have cameras. You cant get into the front door without booking your stay. There's a QR code you have to scan & input your info. Then you're given a code for the front door & dorm/room. The goki app is simple to use. The lounge areas were clean, so were the dorms, capsules & the bathrooms. DORM: The dorm was surprisingly quiet . Like, you can hear a pin drop quiet.  Anytime I passed anyone I said good morning,  they said good morning back. Ppl staying there were mostly to themselves,  which was my type of vibe. Different ages too. Early 20's to 60's. I stayed on the 3rd flr. 18 pod, all women with a balcony. It was my first time at a capsule hotel. I loved it, I'm already making plans to go back. There were several places in the dorm to place your belongings. There were lockers,  racks (for luggage 🧳/medium/large bags). Most ppl left their bags (small/med bags by their pods) . There's also space inside the capsule to place a small/med bag, which is what I did. Please don't worry about your stuff getting stolen. Ppl are literally there to sleep & get work done. BATHROOM:There were 3 bathrooms on the third flr and a huge sink with 3 faucets & a large mirror right off the elevator.  I'm not gonna lie, I thought with all the ppl staying on the flr, the bathroom was gonna a bit messy. For the 3 days I stayed here, it remained clean the entire time! I was very pleased with that. I can be a stickler for cleanliness. I never waited to use the bathroom. One was always available. SHOWER:The showers 🚿  were clean and located on the (L) level. There are also more bathrooms on this level. Male & Female showers are separate. There were 4 showers, no door , just a curtain. There are hooks near each shower to hang your towel and benches where I placed my clothes & toiletries.There was hot & cold water. If you're worried about the curtain ...dont! Remember, nobody is looking at you lol, you'll be fine 🩵 BONUS: I arrived on a Wednesday.  It was free pizza night🍕 I thought that was generous & kind of them. PODS: I was in pod 59 . Its a bottom pod , located right next to the balcony which is exactly what I wanted. 60 is also next to the balcony (top pod). The sheets in the pod were clean, Im not accustomed to sleeping in a capsule lol, I kept fidgeting the first night, by the second night I slept comfortably. There were several light settings in the pod, the air inside was fine, at one point it got too cold for me so I turned off the entire pod and was warm & cozy. You will need a USB charger to charge inside the pod, which I had. It charged at regular speed. There was a section of the pod that was detachable, it looked like a desk, that was cool. STAFF: staff was friendly,  very helpful. I wasn't using the locker correctly.  I texted in the goki app, and received help in a few minutes. A staff member came up to walk me through it. If you're trying to decide whether or not to book this Hostel...dont think too much, Go for it! If you worry too much you will miss out on great experiences. God bless 💗

Clean room, perfect location and nice staff. Free pizza wednesday and free beer friday. The shower in the room was horrible, rest was oke.

Did I enjoy my stay? Yes. However this hostel could do better. I would only reccomend if you've been to a hostel before. The Good: I stayed here for 3 nights. Really the beds were the best part. The capsules provide a highten sense of privacy. I felt very much comfortable doing my own thing in there without the fear of waking people up. Beds were clean. The staff were great and helpful. Saw them clean the rooms often. The cafe in the lobby was tasty, but if that isnt your taste then you can easily find a cafe or something else around the corner. Location is right next to a metro station as well as a Walgreens (very handy) and in a lively part of town. I felt safe as a female solo traveler here. The Bad: attention to detail. I can ignore cracks in the plastic capsules and characteristics of an old building, but they really need to cool it on the duck tape. The fact that they even used duck tape to label the lockers? You couldnt get some blank labels? As well as other things visibly taped together. The lockers were smaller than i'd hope and frustrating to unlock. I did have 1 of the USB charging ports in my capsule not work at all too. I dont think any of these are major repairs, but a lot of small ones. If i were to reccomend staying in one of their facilities I would maybe reccomend the I street location. I've never been but I know its newer, so it might be in better shape. Would I stay here again? Yes. I think its really handy in the grand scheme of things when I travel up here to see concerts or visit family. Just dont expect the "scifi japanese hospitality experience" that you see on Japan travel blogs on capsule hostels
