Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art

Great small museum dedicated to LGBTQIA+ art. I loved the current exhibition "Pamela Sneed and Carlos Martiel: Sacred and Profane". Sneed's art was inspired by the history of slave pens on Fire Island. Some of her art reminded me of the late Arnulf Rainer (1929-2025). Other pieces are reminiscent of Ana Mendieta (1948-1985) and Kara Walker (born 1969). All of the artworks are beautiful and thought-provoking at the same time, shining a spotlight on an often overlooked part of African-American history.

Had a wonderful weekday visit here! There was a modest wait of about 10–30 minutes to get in, but the thought-provoking contemporary exhibits were well worth it. A vital cultural space that offers a unique and important perspective. Solid 4-star experience.

It is small, two rooms. The Ruga exhibit was nice, but again small. Ten dollar/each suggested donation felt a bit much for us. Well curated and interesting subject matter. No sanitary wipes for the headphones that can be used for videos though.

A tiny 2 room sized museum. One side was works of David. Just black and white photographs from the depressing time period in his life. Nothing artful about these photos. The other side was Ruga, whose works of threads were amazing. There are some books, I browsed them as well. Too many black and white photos, nothing engaging. Overall, too small a museum for $10 recommended donation.

This queer museum/ art space has evolved from gay white male D art , has become a very inclusive trans, people’s of all colors and all gender spirits There’s a suggested $10 fee- but technically it’s free and available to all They also have their original space for queer drawings Make sure you get on there.
