The Leslie-Lohman Museum in SoHo is the world's first accredited museum dedicated exclusively to LGBTQ+ art.
You’ll find a place that’s less a static archive and more a living project, with shows that don’t just display important art, but also actively back the artists who make it. Their thoughtful curation covers gay and lesbian artistic expression across mediums and time, from contemporary pieces to historically significant works.
New York’s art world runs on new ideas and different perspectives. This museum is a good example, giving a home to LGBTQ+ voices that mainstream places often ignored. It’s a space for anyone interested in queer art history, or just looking for a cultural connection.
The museum’s location in lower Manhattan means you're close to other galleries, shops, and restaurants. Check leslielohman.org for current exhibitions and hours.

We were very excited to visit, but on our first attempt, the museum wasn't open due to technical difficulties with an installation. We tried again a few days later and, only after responding to the invitation to make a donation and offering a reasonably generous amount did we discover that only one installation was on view and the rest of the galleries were closed. Very disappointing and feeling put out. The limited viewing should have been disclosed and management should do a better job of scheduling the galleries. We wouldn't return or recommend.
such a lovely museum with beautifully and thoughtfully curated exhibits
This organizations content choices continue to fall. Although years ago they displayed images with extensive import and interest, on this, my second visit in a year, i would characterize the artists creative choices as narcissistic and self indulgent
It’s free, but I’m not impressed at all
