Gay Bars & Clubs in Iquique
Iquique is a mid-sized port and beach city in Chile's far-northern Tarapacá region, and its LGBTQ+ nightlife is small and low-key rather than a sprawling scene. There is no dedicated "gayborhood," and on most nights queer social life is folded into the city's general nightlife. That said, Iquique does have one genuinely dedicated LGBTQ+ venue plus a large mainstream club that regularly programmes drag and "divas" nights, which together cover most of what a visitor is likely to want.
Indigo Club — the city's dedicated LGBTQ+ nightclub
Indigo Club is Iquique's flagship and effectively its only dedicated LGBTQ+ nightclub. It sits in the Bajo Molle sector on Avenida La Tirana, a short taxi or rideshare ride south of the historic centre. The club is best known for its drag and transformismo shows, featuring performers from around Chile and the wider region, and it regularly hosts touring party brands. Expect a Latin-leaning soundtrack of reggaeton, pop and house, themed party nights, and a dance floor that keeps going late on weekends (roughly Thursday to Saturday). If you want one reliable address for an openly gay night out in Iquique, this is it.
Delirium Club — mainstream mega-disco with drag nights
Delirium Club is a large mainstream disco, also in the Bajo Molle sector, with several dance areas, a terrace and a big weekend crowd. It is not a gay venue as such, but it programmes regular drag shows and "divas" nights and is welcoming to LGBTQ+ guests, so it is worth watching its social media for the queer-oriented events on its calendar. Between Indigo and Delirium's themed nights, Bajo Molle is where most of Iquique's after-dark queer activity happens.
Downtown bars and cafés
In the historic centre, the Paseo Baquedano pedestrian street and the blocks around Plaza Prat are lined with relaxed, gay-friendly bars, cafés and restaurants. None of these are specifically gay venues, but they are easygoing places for a drink before heading out, and same-sex couples are a normal sight in the touristy downtown and beachfront areas. Iquique's nightlife generally starts late and, outside the two Bajo Molle clubs, tends to wind down earlier than in Santiago.
What to expect
Weekends — especially Friday and Saturday — are when the scene is liveliest, and that is when Indigo and Delirium schedule their shows. Dress is casual to smart-casual; the legal drinking age is 18, so carry ID. Chile is one of South America's more progressive countries, with marriage equality since 2022, and Iquique is a generally safe, welcoming city, though the north is socially more conservative than the capital. As in any nightlife district, keep an eye on your belongings and use registered taxis or rideshare apps late at night. Because the scene is small and events move quickly, it is always worth checking venues' Instagram pages for the current programme before you go.
