Montevideo Pride / Marcha de la Diversidad 2026

The Marcha por la Diversidad is Uruguay's Pride — and one of the biggest annual street mobilisations in the whole country. It is held, by tradition, on the last Friday of September, which puts the 2026 march on 25 September, at the heart of Montevideo's month-long Mes de la Diversidad.

Uruguay is one of the most progressive countries in Latin America on LGBTQ rights — early to same-sex marriage and to a gender-identity law — and the march reflects that: less a tourist party than a serious, joyful, political turnout that fills the centre of the capital. It is an evening march, stepping off around 6:30pm and moving through the 18 de Julio corridor in the city centre; the exact assembly and end points are set by the organising committee each year, so they shift between the central plazas (in 2025 it ran from Plaza Cagancha to Plaza 1º de Mayo). Tens of thousands take part. It is free and open to everyone.

The march is run by the Coordinadora de la Marcha por la Diversidad, an autonomous collective — not the government — and the city's Secretaría de la Diversidad wraps a month of cultural events around it.

Practical notes: Montevideo's centre is walkable and the march runs right through it. Late September is early spring in the southern hemisphere — mild, sometimes wet, so bring a layer. The Coordinadora announces the 2026 route and that year's consigna (theme) closer to the date on its channels, so check before you go.
