Last verified: October 2026. Bogotá has a big gay nightlife scene, but it has never had many gay hotels. There is no men-only hotel in the city, and no clothing-optional guesthouse we can confirm is trading. There is one small hotel in Chapinero that has sold itself as a gay hotel since 2013, Hotel Boutique San Sebastián on Calle 62, though at least one major booking site now lists it under a neutral name. The only men-only beds are the overnight rooms at a gay sauna. Everyone else stays in mainstream hotels that welcome same-sex couples, which is normal in this city. This guide covers three things. First, which of those hotels let you walk to the Calle 58–60 strip around Theatron. Second, which ones put you in the safer, more expensive Zona T and leave you needing a taxi. Third, the local rules that affect your stay: ID checks for visitors, the 19% IVA exemption for foreign tourists, and the taxi you should not flag outside a club at 3 am.

Where to sleep, in real minutes

Gay Bogotá on foot is a small rectangle in Chapinero Central. It runs from about Calle 55 north to Calle 66, and from Carrera 7 west to Avenida Caracas (Avenida Carrera 14). The busiest part is on Calles 58, 59 and 60 between Carrera 9 and Carrera 13. Theatron is at Calle 58 #10-32. A few steps north on Calle 59 are Brokeback Mountain and Leos Bar Mística. Coyote Crazy! is at Carrera 9 #59-16, The Boys at Carrera 9 #58-09, and Punto 59 on Carrera 13. La Chusma is at Calle 60 #13-28.

A second cluster sits around Calles 64–66. Dark Club is at Calle 64 #13-35, Saint Moritz is up on Calle 65 #13-30, and Poseidon is on Avenida Carrera 14 at Calle 65. The Royal Center at Carrera 13 #66-80 hosts the big drag shows. La Playa on Calle 55 marks the southern edge.

Three things to know before you choose a bed. First, the city sits at about 2,600 m, so walking uphill takes longer than you expect. Second, the ground rises to the east: every carrera from 13 towards 7 is a climb, and east of Carrera 7 it gets steep. Third, Avenida Caracas has TransMilenio running down the middle and is grim at 3 am. Cross it in a car, and do not walk along it.

Chapinero Central (Calles 57–65): sleep in the scene

Hotel Boutique San Sebastián is at Calle 62 #9-49 and has 8 small rooms decorated in Pop Art style. It is 5–6 min from the Calle 59 bars, 6–8 min from Theatron and 6–7 min from Dark Club and Saint Moritz. The walk back runs north along Carrera 9 or Carrera 10. On weekend nights these are lit and have people on them until the bars close. On a Tuesday they are empty, and an empty Chapinero street is where phone snatchings happen. Guests on booking sites in 2025 still described it as sitting in the middle of the gay area and close to TransMilenio. Ask for a room facing away from the street if you sleep lightly.

The only other gay-specific bed in the area is at Dagoas Sauna Hostel Gay, Calle 59 #9-34. It is a men's sauna with hostel-style overnight rooms, 1–2 min from Theatron's door. You get the location and very little else.

Mainstream mid-range hotels and serviced apartments line Carreras 7 to 13 between Calles 55 and 65. If you book one, check the cross street. Between Carreras 9 and 11 you are in the noise on Friday and Saturday until the bars close. On Carrera 7 you get bus noise but a better-lit walk. Anything facing Caracas is a poor choice.

Quinta Camacho (Calles 67–72): leafy, quiet, a short climb

North of Calle 67, Chapinero turns into brick Tudor-style houses, cafés and restaurants. Casa Legado (Carrera 8 #69-60, 13 rooms in a 1950s house, most with a small kitchen) and Hotel Casona del Patio (Carrera 8 #69-24, 24 rooms, 24-hour front desk) are almost next door to each other. From either, Dark Club is 10–12 min and Theatron is 16–19 min. Going out is downhill. Coming home is five blocks uphill at altitude, so add a few minutes. Our advice: walk down at 10 pm and take an app car back at 3 am for a few thousand pesos. At night these streets are quiet and residential, which is exactly why you should not walk them alone. The Four Seasons Casa Medina on Carrera 7 is in the same area (not in our listings). It is the splurge for this location, and an app car to the strip takes a few minutes.

Zona Rosa, Zona T and Parque 93 (Calles 79–94): safer streets, taxi to the bars

This is where Bogotá puts its expensive hotels. It has more police, more security guards and better pavements. The only gay bar nearby is Bar Chiquita at Carrera 14A #83-63, a mixed crowd. The Theatron strip is about 3 km south, so you will take a taxi every night. Sofitel Victoria Regia (Carrera 13 #85-80) is 4–5 min from Bar Chiquita. Hotel B.O.G. is the design hotel with the rooftop pool. Our listings put it 15–17 min from Bar Chiquita, but the hotel's published address is Carrera 11 #86-74, which would make it closer, so check on a map. Hotel Click Clack (Carrera 11 #93-77, by Parque 93) is 16–18 min from Bar Chiquita and has a rooftop bar. Zona T is not trouble-free. In September 2026 a young man was drugged and robbed of more than COP 20 million after meeting an app date in a Zona T bar.

Usaquén: the W, far from everything gay

W Bogotá on Avenida Carrera 9 near Calle 127 is about 3.5 km from Bar Chiquita and more than 6 km from Theatron. Choose it for the spa and the Sunday Usaquén market. It does not work as a base for going out.

Teusaquillo (Calles 32–45): saunas, not a place to sleep

The older sauna circuit is south of Chapinero, west of Caracas: Cómplices at Carrera 13A #38-60, Spa Señorial at Calle 36 #13-14 and Ulises at Carrera 15 #31B-26. Bar Asilo, the alternative queer bar, is on Caracas at Calle 40A. Teusaquillo is a residential area of brick houses that goes quiet at night, and none of our listed hotels are there. Visit by day or by app car.

La Candelaria: museums by day, taxi at night

Casa Quinta Hotel (Carrera 4 #17-59, about 10 rooms, near Las Aguas) suits a sightseeing trip. It is close to the Gold Museum and the Monserrate funicular. It is also about 2 km from the nearest gay sauna and nearly 5 km from Theatron. The historic centre empties after dark, and walking north along Carrera 7 at night is a bad idea. Budget COP for two taxis every night out.

Gay-owned, men-only and clothing-optional

Gay-marketed: Hotel Boutique San Sebastián is the only one. It has marketed itself as Bogotá's gay hotel since about 2013, under the "Hotel Gay San Sebastián" name on its own channels. Older listings describe a mixed gay and lesbian clientele. It was never men-only. In 2025–26 one large booking platform listed it as "Hotel Boutique San Sebastián Chapinero" with no gay label, while metasearch sites still carried a "Caters to Gay" tag. We could not confirm who owns it in 2026 or whether the gay positioning is still official. Read it as a gay-friendly small hotel in the gay district, and email them if a gay-run house matters to you.

Men-only: Bogotá has no men-only hotel. Dagoas Sauna Hostel Gay is a men's sauna with rooms you can sleep in, and the other saunas (Saint Moritz, Cómplices, La Playa, Spa Señorial, Ulises) are men's venues that sell entry, not beds. None of them work as a hotel for a couple.

Clothing-optional: None verified. A clothing-optional house called The Nudist Mansion, at Calle 39 in Teusaquillo, showed up on map listings. We have removed it because we cannot confirm it is still trading or how it operates. Do not book anything that only exists as a map pin and a phone number.

Gone from our listings: We have also removed several Chapinero and centre properties that used to be listed as gay-friendly, including Hotel Coco, Trip Monkey Chapinero, Hotel Living 55, Hotel Rosales Plaza and two chain hotels. They were never gay venues. If you find them elsewhere, check them like any other hotel.

Booking rules that bite

    • Visitors and ID. Colombian hotels must register every guest's ID, and laws against child sexual exploitation mean reception will refuse anyone without documents and anyone underage. Foreign guests are also reported to the immigration authority. A man you met on an app will usually be asked for his cédula at the desk. Some hotels let a registered visitor up. Others charge a second-guest supplement or refuse non-guests after a set hour. Small Chapinero hotels are generally relaxed about this. Big Zona T hotels follow procedure.
    • The golden tip. Book for 2 guests even when you travel alone. It usually costs little or nothing more in Bogotá, and it means a guest arriving at 2 am is not a "visitor" problem at the desk.
    • IVA, the hotel tax. Colombia charges 19% IVA on accommodation. Foreign tourists who are not resident are exempt, which in practice means showing your passport with its entry stamp or record at check-in. Colombian citizens, dual nationals using a Colombian document and residents pay the 19%. Check that the prepaid OTA rate does not already include it. In July 2026 the government sent Congress a tax bill that would end the exemption and replace it with a refund after departure. We could not confirm whether it has passed, so check before you travel in 2027.
    • Hotel insurance. Many hotels add a small voluntary insurance charge (seguro hotelero) per night. You can ask to have it removed.
    • Resort fees and deposits. Bogotá hotels do not charge resort fees. Luxury properties take a card pre-authorisation at check-in. Small hotels may ask for a transfer deposit, and paying through a booking platform is safer.
    • Minimum stays. These are rare. Pride weekend and big Theatron party nights are the exceptions, when small Chapinero hotels may set 2-night minimums. Confirm before booking.

The gay calendar and where to book for it

Bogotá Pride: Marcha Distrital de la Ciudadanía LGBTI

The 2026 march was on Sunday 28 June. It gathered at 10 am on Carrera 7 at Calle 59, at the eastern edge of the gay district, and walked down Carrera 7 to Plaza de Bolívar. That same month the city also hosted the Marcha del Sur in Kennedy (14 June), a Contramarcha from the Centro de Memoria on Calle 26 (28 June) and Yo Marcho Trans (4 July). 2027 dates: not announced as of October 2026. The march usually falls on a late-June weekend, but wait for the city to confirm. Book Chapinero Central or Quinta Camacho. On the day you can walk to the start, and the Saturday night before is the busiest of the year at Theatron. Small hotels in Chapinero fill first, so book as soon as the date is published.

Festival por la Igualdad

This is the city hall's Pride season of talks, concerts and events. In 2026 it ran from 13 June to 17 July, with the FUGA arts centre in the centre as its main venue. The 2027 dates are TBA. It does not affect hotel prices on its own. The march weekend does.

Kuir Bogotá

A free festival of queer film and art. The last confirmed edition ran from 15 to 22 November 2025 at FUGA. We found no published 2026 dates as of 31 October 2026, so check the organiser before planning a trip around it. FUGA is in the centre, so sleep in Chapinero and take a taxi or TransMilenio down in the evening.

Theatron Anniversary

Theatron's own birthday night. The last edition we have confirmed was 3 May 2025, and the date changes every year. The 2027 date is TBA, so watch Theatron's own channels. Book San Sebastián or a Chapinero Central hotel and you can walk home.

Summer Ball

Oh My Drag's big drag night, with Drag Race guests. The 2026 edition was on 22 August at the Royal Center, Carrera 13 #66-80. 2027 is TBA. The Royal Center is 4–6 min from Dark Club and roughly 10 min from Casa Legado, which makes Quinta Camacho the best base for this one.

Getting back at 3 am

From El Dorado airport. Chapinero is about 13 km from the airport. That is 20–30 min by road at night and 45–75 min in weekday traffic. Use the official yellow-taxi rank outside arrivals, not anyone who approaches you inside the terminal. Taxis charge the meter plus a fixed airport surcharge, which reports put at about COP 8,000 under the 2026 tariff. Expect about COP 35,000–55,000 (about US$9–14) to Chapinero, and more to Usaquén. App rides from the airport are common but pick up at awkward spots. TransMilenio and SITP buses do run from the airport, but with luggage, at altitude, after a long flight, they are not worth it.

From the bars. TransMilenio is not a late-night option. Do not hail a taxi on the street outside a club. In February 2026 a woman who left Theatron and got into a taxi went missing, and police later investigated it as a kidnapping and robbery. That is the classic Bogotá paseo millonario, where you are driven between cash machines. Order a car in an app (DiDi, Cabify, InDrive and Uber all operate, and some apps also dispatch registered yellow taxis), match the plate before you get in, and share the trip with a friend. Theatron's door staff can also call a taxi.

Walking. Within Calles 57–65 between Carreras 9 and 13 is fine in a group on a busy Friday or Saturday. On a quiet weeknight you are on your own. Carrera 13 is lit and has traffic. Caracas is not safe on foot at 3 am. East of Carrera 7 and the residential blocks of Quinta Camacho are dark and empty late. Do not walk between Chapinero and Zona T, or anywhere near the centre, after midnight. Keep your phone in a front pocket and do not wear jewellery.

Health, safety and the law

The law. Same-sex marriage has been legal since 2016, joint adoption is allowed, and anti-discrimination law covers hotels and services. A hotel that refuses a same-sex couple a double bed is breaking the law. Report it to the manager, then to the platform. Outside the big cities attitudes are more conservative, and anti-LGBTQ violence in Colombia is high.

Clinics, PEP and PrEP. PEP must start within 72 hours. Go to the emergency department (urgencias) of a private hospital such as Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá (Calle 119 #7-75) or Clínica del Country (Carrera 16 #82-57), bring your passport and travel insurance details, and say "profilaxis post-exposición VIH". For PrEP advice, testing and referrals, the city-run Casa LGBTI Sebastián Romero (Calle 44 #14-60, Teusaquillo) offers free services. Profamilia's private sexual-health clinics are the usual walk-in option. Call ahead to confirm they can give PrEP to a visitor.

The app-date rule. This is the biggest risk for gay visitors to Bogotá. In May 2025 a man was in court accused of using dating apps to meet gay men, drugging them with veterinary sedatives and robbing at least five homes in Chapinero. Prosecutors have documented women's gangs doing the same to straight men, and the Zona T case above happened in September 2026. Meet in a busy bar first. Never leave a drink unattended or accept one already opened. Bring dates to your hotel, where reception registers their ID, rather than going to their place. Check cash machine limits, and keep your passport in the room safe.

Drugs. A small personal dose is not a crime, but using drugs in public brings police fines and confiscation. Selling is a serious offence, and hotels can throw you out. Scopolamine (burundanga) robberies happen in Chapinero's nightlife areas, and the city has run police operations there. GHB and other chemsex drugs are a medical risk at 2,600 m.

Smoking and cannabis. Smoking is banned in enclosed public places, including hotel indoor areas, and most hotels charge a cleaning fee if you smoke in the room. Recreational cannabis is not legal for sale.

Cruising. Parque Nacional on Carrera 7 is the outdoor spot people name. After dark it is a robbery risk, and its paths climb towards the hills. The saunas are the safer choice.

Three picks

Budget: Hotel Boutique San Sebastián. It is the only hotel in our listings within an easy walk of Theatron (6–8 min), and the only one that has marketed itself as gay. That counts for more than room size in a city where the taxi ride home is the main risk. Confirm its 2026 policy when you book.

Mid-range: Casa Legado. A 1950s house in Quinta Camacho with kitchenettes and quiet rooms. It is 10–12 min from Dark Club, and the Royal Center drag nights are close by. You can walk down to the strip and take a short, cheap app car back.

Splurge: Sofitel Bogotá Victoria Regia. It is 4–5 min from Bar Chiquita, the only gay bar in the luxury district, and about 10–20 min by taxi from Theatron. The Zona T streets around it are among the best guarded in the city. For a rooftop pool, choose B.O.G. instead.

When is Bogotá Pride 2027?

It had not been announced as of October 2026. The 2026 march was on Sunday 28 June and started on Carrera 7 at Calle 59, at the edge of the gay district.

Is Zona Rosa or Chapinero better for a gay trip?

Chapinero if you are going out: the bars, saunas and Theatron are all there. Zona Rosa if you want polish and safer streets and do not mind a 10–20 min taxi every night.
