What reviewers say

Visitors praise Theatron for its massive size, diverse music across many rooms, and energetic, fun atmosphere with cheap drinks. However, several reviewers complain about discriminatory and classist treatment by security personnel, including being separated by gender upon entry and denied entry for not being a "regular customer.

About this place THEATRON

Theatron is the most famous gay venue in Colombia and one of the most famous gay clubs in the world — a converted colonial building on Calle 58 in Chapinero that has been expanded over the decades into a labyrinthine complex of 13 distinct dance floors, each with its own music format, atmosphere, and character. The capacity of 5,000 people makes it one of the largest gay clubs on the planet by any measure; on peak Friday and Saturday nights, the venue operates at full capacity with queues stretching down the block. The variety within Theatron is part of what makes it remarkable: you can move from a reggaeton floor to a pop room to a darker electronic space to a rooftop terrace to a quieter lounge bar without leaving the building. The colonial architecture gives the space a grandeur that purpose-built clubs rarely achieve — high ceilings, internal courtyards, staircases between levels, and the visual layering of a building that has accumulated history over 30 years of operation. Theatron opened in 1993 and has been a cornerstone of Bogotá's LGBTQ+ scene ever since; it has survived economic crises, political changes, and the periodic challenges that face large gay venues everywhere. The venue books international DJs, hosts themed events, drag shows, and special productions, and during Bogotá Pride weekend becomes the de facto headquarters of the city's celebrations. For visitors to Bogotá, Theatron is non-negotiable — the experience of a 5,000-person gay club in a Andean capital city operating at full Latin American midnight energy is one of the most singular nightlife experiences available anywhere in the world. Arrive after midnight for the full effect; the club runs until 4am or later on weekends.
