Pride Bahamas Week
About This Event
Pride Bahamas is a small, determined Pride in a hard place. Sex between men has been legal since 1991, but same-sex couples have no recognition and Pride events draw open religious opposition. Organisers trace Pride Week back to 2001, and it has been held every October since 2020, alongside National Heroes Month.
Until 2024 there was no march. On 12 October 2024 Rebirth of Pride Bahamas, led by Alexus D'Marco, held what was reported as the country's first Pride march: 36 people walked from the University of The Bahamas to Hillside House on Baillou Hill Road, with a large police escort and some onlookers jeering and quoting scripture, per The Tribune.
For 2025 a "Human Rights March" was planned for 11 October, and a church group, Churches United in Christ, announced a counter-protest at the university the same day. The Bahamas Christian Council said it would not interfere. We couldn't confirm how the 2025 march went, and we found no reports on a 2026 edition.
The 2027 plans hadn't been announced when we checked. Follow Pride Bahamas on social media, and come for a community event, not a party.
