Barbados Pride
About This Event
Pride in Barbados is young and still grassroots. The first public Pride parade went through Bridgetown on a Sunday in July 2018. Just over 120 people walked, and the permit came through only two days before. The second parade followed in 2019, and after the pandemic the third went ahead on 25 June 2023, starting from Golden Square Freedom Park. In December 2022 the High Court struck down the colonial-era buggery and serious indecency laws. Same-sex couples still have no legal recognition, though, and attitudes outside activist circles are mixed.
Pride Barbados is run by a committee of local organisers, with Equals Barbados doing much of the work. Pride Month usually opens with a launch event in early June and ends with the parade, and in between there are talks, a Pride Hike and parties. In 2024 Hurricane Beryl disrupted the June plans, and the parade was moved to 14 July. The 2025 programme ran from 1 June to 5 July under the theme "More Than an Existence, A Life!". It opened with a history symposium at the PAHO office in Bridgetown and closed with a Pride Party Finale.
Announcements go out on social media close to the dates. Expect a community-sized march, not a tourist spectacle.
We couldn't confirm the 2026 programme, and nothing for 2027 had been announced when we checked.
