We had fond memories of the Louisbourg from about ten years ago. What a disappointment today! The establishment seems to have changed considerably, and unfortunately, the quality is no longer there. From the moment we arrived, the impression was negative: the reception area is in a separate building from the rooms, and the reception area is cramped, dark, and unwelcoming. In the entrance, a damaged wall box exposed cables—a situation whose compliance we cannot judge, but which certainly doesn't inspire confidence in the overall upkeep of the premises. Access to the rooms is difficult: several doors, a very narrow and steep staircase, with no real accessibility for people with reduced mobility. The common areas are shabby, poorly lit, and appear neglected. The room was very small and in a disappointing state: damaged walls, worn furniture, dust, an unpleasant smell of cat urine in the closet, a poorly maintained bathroom with faulty fixtures, and cleanliness that left much to be desired. The bedding was particularly disappointing: a strong smell of laundry detergent and the discovery of significant stains on the mattress protector upon departure. The soundproofing is practically nonexistent: conversations and movement in the hallway were perfectly audible from the bed. The air conditioning malfunctioned, and no maintenance or repairs were carried out in the room during our stay. The included breakfast was also a disappointment: we had to go to a different building outside, the welcome was lukewarm, the coffee was very poor quality, and the meal was uninteresting. We preferred to have breakfast elsewhere the next day. Upon departure, the reception was closed despite the posted hours, and no easy solution was provided for returning the key. We understand that an older hotel can have flaws, but here the problem isn't the age of the building: it's a clear lack of maintenance, cleanliness, organization, and, in some areas, facilities whose condition raises serious questions. The only real advantage remains the exceptional location in the heart of Old Quebec. Unfortunately, this does not compensate for a service that does not match the price charged. We will not be returning and cannot recommend this establishment.
I think this place has been getting a bit of a bad rap from people who nitpick. You can certainly do your research to determine whether or not you have to climb the stairs or take an elevator. The place was built in the early 19th century. Big surprise! I also didn't find it noisy at all. The rooms are relatively soundproof and perfect for a romantic getaway with your wife.
The hotel has deteriorated since the change of ownership... Clean, but nothing special. We won't be back!
Pros: amazing location, incredibly comfortable bed, historic, windows open, great view of the chateau, great value for money *fantastic free breakfast!!* Cons: ceiling hole was fixed with a cardboard box, no pens or paper, the last visitor's bar of soap was left in the shower, *if you take the bus you will have to walk 10+ minutes from the stop*
The room was very clean and tidy. The TV and air conditioner were new and very comfortable. There was also a washing machine in the hotel, which was very convenient. The breakfast downstairs was delicious. It's a 2-minute walk from the hotel, a great location with many good restaurants nearby. My kids especially loved this place. After dinner, you can take a walk on the castle hotel's terrace. It's such a great value!
Old Town rooms, small but cozy. Very comfortable. A maze of hallways to find your room.
