About this place La Gondola

La Gondola, a gay-friendly Italian restaurant on West Belmont Avenue, serves up reliable pizza and pasta in a no-frills setting.

It’s part of a small local chain, so it has that neighborhood-spot feel but with the kinks worked out. The menu sticks to the classics: pizza, pasta, and the usual Italian suspects. Nothing fancy, just good, solid food.

The vibe is genuinely welcoming. You’ll see LGBTQ+ guests and allies sharing tables, families, and couples. It’s the kind of unpretentious place Chicago needs more of—somewhere you can get decent Italian without feeling like you need to dress up or decipher a menu.

Belmont Avenue has a strong LGBTQ+ presence, with plenty of other places to eat and drink, so La Gondola fits right in. It’s easy to get to, whether you're a local or just passing through. If you want a casual dinner with friends, a low-key date, or just a plate of spaghetti, this place does the trick. Check their website for the current menu and hours.

We just heard that their was a new pizza place so stopped by to try it based on reviews and pictures it looked great. Ordered just a slice of pepperoni and one sausage. The dough is the best in the area, the sausage is good quality and the pepperoni is delicious, the best I've had on a pizza. It was very light on sauce but I figured I could order extra sauce if I order a full pizza. The let down was the cheese It has to be part skim mozzarella it's bland and gluey. Whole milk mozzarella is much more rich and flavorful. If they used a better quality of cheese it would easily be the best pizza in the area. I hope they switch I'd love to be a regular.

Great staff behind the bar and in the kitchen. Prices are awesome and the atmosphere was welcoming. Great place to hang!

Everything about this restaurant is lovely. This is a must to visit. The portions of food is unbelievable. I purchased a meatball sandwich with fries and it took me an hour just to eat the first meatball. That's how big they are. One can be a meal by itself. The fries are awesome. I don't know what they season them with, but I can eat those all day. The sandwich is great. I'm still eating. I can't seem to get past that 1st meatball 🤣🤣🤣. The toasted bread doesn't help. I can eat that alone with tea in the mornings. The staff are great
