We went in the 1st week of October 2026, the humidity was terrible, there is not a lot to do outside walking on the beach, but could not do that due to the storms, explore for a day but no more than that, food is not great paid 78.00 roughly for dinner nightly, just disappointing. Go somewhere else.
Not WORTH VISITING UNLESS JUST DRIVING THROUGH Tourist Trap. Avoid unless you like being taken advantage of After seeing many reviews describing this town as one of Florida’s best small, charming towns, Sorry to say how this town is a major let down. The charm and overall scene is decent enough, no argument. What is so unfortunate is the town government apparently recently (2026) made all public parking a pay scheme generator. Sad. A total sell-out and a clear signal that they don’t value and want to attract tourists- they see tourists as suckers to inflate their town bottom line It’s not nice enough to justify that. IMO few things are unless you are a world class tourist site or located within a major population center. There are many charming towns (Naples, Fl) that do not charge for parking and even provide garages. We do value the nearby Amelia Island Plantation area and the outstanding resorts of the Omni or Ritz Carlton. But Fernandina Beach is just something to not support as its intentions are sorely misplaced
Be aware of parking! They have introduced parking charges, no warning signs, no rates advertised. Did boat tour to come back to a ticket. Went to city Hall told to go to police station no one could help there! 50 dollars later. Feel ripped off 😪 so disappointing no wonder shops had closed, no one wants to visit to be ripped off. Won't be going back!!! As a visitor to the US feel rather deflated!
DO NOT go to this place. We visited and parked in front of the post office - the furthest down (closest to the ocean). Walked around and visited 100 GREAT SHOPS and had a great lunch.... just to come back to a $50 parking ticket... The sign that said we had to pay for parking was at least 70 feet away from our spot... my entire family spent hours there with NO CLUE we had to pay for parking... What kind of bureaucrat decides to charge for parking at all at a place where they want people to show up! We saw NUMEROUS signs on vendors doors about the parking. My son and I both thought they were trying to prevent paid parking... so we were cool with that. Little did I know that rulers run this city and decide to punish their visitors. I called to complain and the woman repeatedly acted like she couldn't hear me... then, after all, heard me fine and hung up on me. I wanted to go back to every store and return every thing I bought. I'm angry if you can't tell ... we needed to go to walmart later and drove another 8 miles to get to one NOT in Fernandina Beach.... a city obviously run by tyrants. Don't go there, it isn't worth the drive. Sorry all you vendors - you have great stores but you have voted in simpletons who think they should collect more money from anyone spending money there. I drove down the street screaming out to anyone that would listen to make sure they paid for their parking before they got ticketed! Never again... not worth the drive... AVOID at all cost.
I have been to many beaches, but I really like this one. Plenty of places to access parking and you can drive on the beach if you like. The beach is so clean, very quiet and safe. I've been there at different times of the day, on different days of the week and some days are busier than others, but never too crowded. There are plenty of places to bike around the area, whether on the sidewalk or on a trail. The downtown historic area is just beautiful and quaint with lots of places to shop and dine.
We went out early to take a walk on this beautiful beach which was a great idea. The beach is clean and you can walk for miles if you are up to it. A popular beach but because it is so vast people are easily spread out and there is no feeling of crowds. The water is warm and it was refreshing to see families happily enjoying the beach, people exercising and dogs enjoying the surf. A must visit if in the area
This is a GREAT BEACH. WIDE and CLEAN. Good Public bathrooms on the beachfront park. GREAT oceanfront park with shelters and walking paths.
This beach has so many cracked and broken shells, you do not want to be barefooted if you like walking on the beach that way. The water was very calm and a kid friendly environment.
The Hoyt House is a great place! David and Lindy are incredible hosts who are extremely knowledgeable and really take wonderful car of their guests. It is a beautiful old historic building. If you are planning a visit to Fernandina, this is the place to stay!
Fernandina is the historic down town on Amelia island Florida.. great restaurants, best in all North Florida.. Amazing Beaches, State Parks are a must... Fort Clinch St. Pk. and Amelia Island St. PK. do not miss the sunset cruise that leaves from Fernandina Beach Marina... it will take you to Cumberland Island GA. You will never forget this Cruise... We live on this beautiful Island and still take the cruise twice a year min.
