The Capitol Hotel

We had a very disappointing and uncomfortable stay at this hotel. The bathroom ceiling had black mold, which is completely unacceptable and unhealthy. The box spring had no cover on it and was covered in visible stains, including what appeared to be blood stains. There were also stains all over the rug, and the room had a strong mildew smell coming from the air conditioner. To make matters worse, the elevator suddenly stopped on the third floor, which was very disturbing and concerning. Parts of the hotel looked unfinished or under renovation — concrete floors, doors without handles, and mouse trap stations lining the hallways and doors made the environment feel unsafe and poorly maintained. The area outside the hotel also felt very unsafe. There were people openly using drugs, homeless individuals approaching guests asking for change, and large rats roaming around the parking lot at night. It created a very uncomfortable environment and did not feel secure at all. Another downside is that the hotel does not offer complimentary parking; guests are required to pay daily for parking. Due to the conditions and overall safety concerns, we ultimately decided not to stay at this hotel. Overall, this was not a clean, safe, or pleasant experience, and I would not recommend staying here.

We were incredibly misled by the reviews of this establishment. Once we arrived to the room, we had no towels to take a shower so we had all had to go and pick up our towels after arriving late and exhausted. Once turning on the faucet for the shower, an inexplicable amount of hair flowed out of the drain and riddled the tub floor, making it disgusting to shower in. Even trying to do something as simple as flush the toilet was awful; a minimum of 3 flushes was required. My last day I slept in and woke up to house keeping pounding and yelling at my door for me to check out even though my check out was not for another 2 hours. Once I opened the door, she apologized and walked away. My family and I each had 3 rooms and all had the same experience. If I could put 0 stars I would. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Disappointed! My stay wasn't the best due to the room's cleanliness. The sheets had hair on them, the bathroom was full of mold, and the floor was extremely dusty. Breakfast was fine, and the service at reception was also good.

It doesn’t look like the pictures. The building is old and the rooms humid. There was a lot of noise during the night outside. A car was crashed in the parking and the police came. Its better to park in the garage but you will have to pay 15$ per day. Beside that, the location is nice because it’s in front of a nice park and the breakfast was good.

Very dirty, unsafe, and far too expensive. The duvet was covered in stains. Parking was $16/day, and there were rats everywhere in the underground garage. The walls were very thin and the place was noisy. Not recommended.

Very poor experience. They first sold off our friends handicap room without telling us, despite us having the confirmation that we had it booked. Then, they didnt even have a spare room for them to stay so they had to travel across town just to find an open room at 11:00 pm. Our room was, for lack of a better term, gross. The floor was sticky everywhere, the bathroom was worse... location was super sketchy. Plenty of interesting characters in the parking lot and slamming doors all night, on top of the constant police sirens outside our window. Do yourself and family and favor and book elsewhere.

This is not a 3-star hotel. Regrettably, this hotel was chosen for me through Express Deals om Priceline. I won’t trust Express Deals anymore, but I will contiue to use Priceline. The parking arrangement was cheap ($15/day), but abysmal. You have to get a parking pass before you check in somehow. There is pay to park above ground (which I think is a 3rd party situation), and then there is an underground garage. It was moldy. None of the industrial exhaust fans were on. There was a huge rat trapped in the garage that skipped over the bait box. Couldn’t trick it or the box was out of food. It needs a paint job desperately. There is a lot of wasted space because of the support pillars. But they desperately need a different process for parking. They were using paper in the windows to keep the car from being towed. There was a motorized garage door for safety, which I appreciated. But having to press a button and showing your ticket on a camera to get in as opposed to getting a more 21st century, digital solution screams the owner is cheap or can’t afford to upgrade. If it is the latter, I understand. Times are hard! But there needs to MAJOR UPGRADES before I’d ever consider this a true 3-star hotel. The staff was okay. They seemed really frustrated by the process and it showed. They were slightly cantankerous and short, but I understood. They probably need better and updated services to make check in smoother. So, I certainly don’t blame them. I pray things get better for them. Hang in there, y’all!

The location of this hotel cannot be beat, right across the street from the Capitol Park. The room had all the accoutrements for business travel and I have no complaints. The full breakfast was surprisingly good. The only negative is the parking, which, if you don't read the small signs posted outside, you will assume it's okay to park right next to the hotel. It's not. I got a traffic citation by doing so.

Very inexpensive option close enough to most of what you might want to do in Hartford, the staff is fantastic, the rooms and facilities are motel-esque.
