The Jackson

We recently stayed at The Jackson and our experience was satisfactory. However, I echo the sentiments of many other reviewers in that the customer service was poor. There is no front desk or concierge. We checked in through what was effectively a Ring camera sitting atop a desk in the building's foyer. The common areas weren't well kept and had empty coffee cups and wine glasses on many of the tables. We also couldn't adequately control the temperature of our room. If we visit Woodstock again our family will stay elsewhere.

Great spot, so pretty, close to ski mountain, cheese and wine hour was so nice!

The Inn itself is lovely, and the basics are provided. However hospitality and communication are non existent. I choose a room with a fireplace which is more expensive than a standard room. Upon check, no inn keeper to great us. Had to call and when she did come down casually mentioned don’t try and turn on the fireplace it’s broken. I inquired if she had a room with a working fireplace and was told they are all not working. Keep in mind it’s December in Vermont and was hoping for a cozy stay. She agreed to compensate me for the non working fireplace and I sent an email before I checked out with a fair amount for refund. I received no response this was Dec 21, since then I have sent multiple emails with no response. This inn lacks that New England inn feeling and personal touch. The Jackson Inn has charm and potential, but my stay ultimately felt impersonal and lacking in attention to detail. Basic guest information was missing from the room — there was no in-room guide explaining amenities, how to operate the heat, or even the Wi-Fi password. The gas fireplace, which was a highlighted feature, was not working. The layout also felt inconvenient. Several rooms are located in a separate wing that requires walking outside to access the tea/coffee and lounge area, which was not clearly communicated in advance. Common areas need better upkeep. The shared mini fridge was dirty, not cold, and contained leftover items. Tea and coffee were not restocked, the Keurig was not working, and while an ice bucket was provided, there is no ice machine — guests must ask for ice if someone happens to be available. Trash bins were overflowing and common spaces were not consistently tidied. Interactions with management felt distant, including communicating through a Ring camera rather than in person, which contributed to the overall impersonal experience. Overall, The Jackson Inn could be a lovely stay, but management would benefit from focusing on small details, clear communication, and consistent maintenance to significantly improve the guest experience.

Wonderful stay and such wonderful kind staff. The innkeeper, Stacy, was especially nice and did everything in her power to help! The rooms were cozy and the inn had a lovely fireplace and free coffee and tea which was very much appreciated. The restaurant inside was superb.

The location was wonderful, the rooms were nice albeit a bit expensive, it reminded me of my time spent in guest houses in Europe (in the best way possible). The hotel had a nice cozy feel to it and old charm. They offered free wine and cheese in the evening however, they did not offer free breakfast, though they do have a restaurant they run out of the hotel. The restaurant is very expensive but it is lovely. I would mention for older travelers that there is only stairs for most of the rooms and some of the smaller rooms have small winding stairs to climb to get to room. All in all it was a lovely quiet stay.

A less than satisfactory stay - Let me preface this by saying I have never left a negative review on any hotel/B&B prior to this. I am beyond disappointed by our stay at the Jackson House Inn, and it began with check in. The girl behind the desk was extremely kind and helpful, however their virtual check in system was unable to provide a door code to my phone after several attempts to resend and verifying my number was correct in the system (which by the way, the next morning I still have yet to receive.) Upon finally checking into our suite I was quite thrilled to see a fire place as we had been out in the cold most of the day and wanted to warm ourselves up but when myself and my husband attempted to turn the fire place on it did not work. I suppose their fire place was just for ambiance rather than functionality. After venturing into town and being able to eat at the restaraunt we had chosen due to it being closed for stick season, we made our way back to the hotel to eat at E&O. I had low expectations of receiving a table on such short notice however we were able to be accommodated in the bar which was quaint and lovely and our bartender was an incredible mixologist. Unfortunately that’s where the pleasurable experience ends at E&O, when we received our food the kabob was barely warm and the pork chop I had ordered was about 80% fat. While eating dinner we had watched another patron of the bar be approached by the hostess of the restaurant to which he then exclaimed “I’ve been upgraded!,” to the entire room. A bit tacky on their part to do so after saying they were completely booked until the 2nd. After dinner we went back to our room to actually enjoy what we paid for - and it proved impossible. The room itself is nothing special or “luxurious,” outside of a large whirlpool tub. The sheets were scratchy and starchy, the additional blanket provided was the quality of a McDonald’s napkin, the towels were the equivalent of a motel 6’s. The bed was uncomfortable and the upstairs neighbors for the night must’ve been having a dance party upstairs as they quite literally did not stop moving all night. The bathroom as nice as it looks, was extremely underwhelming lacking most amenities low tier hotels have. The whirlpool tub I had mentioned was scuffed at the bottom with some red material and black along the bottom, the “dry,” feature on the tub was confusing as it came on all hours of the night at random times (most likely user error, I will admit,) and the sink was a miserably slow drain. Also, if you enjoy holding open a tub stopper to drain a jacuzzi sized tub you’ll LOVE this room! The nail in the coffin for me is as the absolutely horrendous noise the in room heating and cooling system started making at 3am once I had finally managed to fall asleep. We were out of the door by 8am and unwilling to even try to catch breakfast at the E&O restaurant. Check out was just flat out ridiculous, an iPad that you click through with zero options to review your stay and only the option to email your receipt. I had to laugh on the way back to our car, I genuinely cannot believe we spent over 300 dollars to stay here when we have stayed in more luxurious and ambient places for significantly less. Out of the 30+ hotel’s I’ve stayed in this year, this one is by FAR the worst and most frustrating.

I scheduled a 1 night stay at Jackson House, and cancelled 2 weeks prior to arrival via email to their info email address provided ,as the 'booking system' wasn't working. Not only did the reservation NOT get cancelled and I continued to receive messages about my stay the night before my stay was originally planned, I was told when I called that 1) I had emailed the wrong email address - which I had not, it was the email in their confirmation email; 2) I had booked a non-refundabe room, which I had not, and 3) I had to email a different email address to cancel - which when provided - immediately bounced. Since then, someone did respond to my original email, and told me they were cancelling me, but would not be refunding me. Insane. Its now 2 weeks later, and I continue to speak to people who are NOT at the hotel - but pick up the line when you call the hotel - they are clearly out of country support teams - and I have been bounced around to support managers now, on hold for waaay too loong. This is my 3rd attempt at getting a refund, and I'm still not convinced it will work. I'm likely going to dispute the charge w/ my cc company now. Do not book here if you want to remain sane!

To be clear, I never made it to the Jackson Inn. I was advised not to fly by my doctor and cancelled. Due a 50% refund according to the terms and conditions but have never been able to get it. Emails, texts and calls and all but two completely ignored. Then a promise to refund not followed through. Be very careful - there is no customer service at all. And no honouring of their contracts.

A few weeks ago, we stumbled across the Jackson Inn for breakfast. It was wonderful food and service! Highly recommend! Huge portions that left us waddling out afterwards.Wish we had took a picture of the food before inhaling it. Will definitely return if in the area again. We really enjoyed our waiter Richard’s company and service.

Wonderful stay. Charming location and the room was very clean and comfortable. The jacuzzi is really superb.

Great base for exploring Woodstock and the rest of tge Windsor County area. Richard was a great host despite only being "part-time". We loved the wine and cheese hour that provided a comfortable time to chat with the other guests.

I want to make it clear that I never stayed at the Jackson. However, my mother had an upcoming reservation that unfortunately had to be canceled due to her being hospitalized and we never had this happen before. Life is unpredictable and unfortunately this happened before the 7 day cancellation policy threshold. I understand that inns like the Jackson House are a small business and can’t recuperate from the loss if they start handing money back to everyone that cancels, but I want to make clear that we received no compassion from the managerial team. In fact, for the past three days I been trying to call to speak to someone who I can compromise with and instead I reach a third party service that gives me the same catch phrase “sorry we can’t cancel due to the 7 day cancellation policy and we will escalate this issue to the managerial team and they will give you a call back”. After three days of escalating the issue with no call back, we will unfortunately lose our money on top of receiving a hospital bill. I was at least looking to reschedule for next year, have a voucher, or at least attempt to sell my reservation but with no response we have more disappointment to add on top of not being able to go to a trip we been planning since December. It’s a shame that for advertising themselves as a small inn, that I can’t even manage to speak to any of the managerial staff.
