About This Event

Portland Pride, held the third Sunday of June, is the Pacific Northwest's second-biggest LGBTQ+ party. It happens along Tom McCall Waterfront Park, on the Willamette River's west bank. The Steel Bridge, east Portland's skyline, and the river itself make for one of America's prettiest parade backdrops. More than 100,000 people come to the Waterfront and the Downtown streets around it.

It's usually a weekend-long affair: Saturday festival, Sunday parade. On Saturday, the Waterfront Park turns into an outdoor festival. You'll find multiple stages, food and drink vendors, merch, community booths, and performances from across the LGBTQ+ arts. Sunday's parade winds through Downtown Portland, finishing back at the Waterfront, where the festival keeps going all afternoon.

Portland's queer culture is pretty diverse, and Pride reflects that. It's not just for gay men. Lesbians and bisexual women show up in force. Trans and non-binary people are visible. And Portland's communities of color have a big presence. Look for the dyke march and other events leading up to the main weekend — they give you a sense of how many different queer groups organize here.

June in Portland means summer's just starting. The rain stops, temperatures climb, and the roses in Washington Park (that's why they call it the Rose City) are in full bloom. Pride weekend mixes the specific joy of a mid-sized, progressive city's community celebration with the best of a Pacific Northwest summer. Hotels in Downtown and the Pearl District fill up fast for Pride. Book three or four months out.
