About this place Boatslip Beach Club

The Boatslip Beach Club is the home of one of the most distinctive social institutions in the American gay calendar: the Provincetown tea dance. Every afternoon from approximately 4pm to 7pm throughout the summer season, the Boatslip's outdoor deck above Cape Cod Bay fills with several hundred people for a ritual that defies simple categorisation. It is a dance event — there is a DJ, and people do dance — but it is also a neighbourhood social hour, a daily meeting of the Provincetown community, and an outdoor party that takes full advantage of one of the most beautiful settings of any gay bar in the United States. The late afternoon light on the water, the harbour in the background, the mixture of longtime regulars and first-time visitors: the tea dance has a specific quality that no number of circuit parties or nightclub nights replicates. The tradition dates to the early 1970s when Provincetown was establishing the social forms of the gay resort town. The Boatslip also operates as a resort hotel and has a pool, poolside bar, and beach access. For visitors to Provincetown, attendance at the tea dance is as mandatory as a visit to the A-House — it is the experience that most precisely encapsulates what makes Provincetown unique.

Totally disappointed with our stay at Boatslip. It's massively overrated and not even close to what it's hyped up to be. The room was dirty, smelled like cigarette smoke, and felt like something you'd get at a roadside motel — definitely not resort quality. No phone in the room, barely any TV channels, and honestly surprised there was even a TV. The bartenders were incredibly rude and unwelcoming, which really set the tone for the whole experience. They shut down the pool during the Tea Dance, claiming it's a liability if people are drinking and swimming — but that logic makes no sense if someone could just as easily fall in while drunk. Just not worth the money or the hassle.

I only have one quick question: is your bar cash only ALL the time or cash only because Frolic 2024 is in town?? Asking for a friend...

Front bar manager is an arrogant and rude guy who insults customers and talks to bar clients like he is doing a favor to customers. He also refused to allow our small service dog at the front outdoor patio even though state law allows service dog in outside bar patio. Please be aware of this arrogant Caucasian server in the bar. The woman manager is equally rude and we won't be visiting this place again given we have so many wonderful and dog friendly places in P-Town.

Many trips to Boat Slip for a beverage as you can't beat their patio and view. But with Covid rules we had to order food and we were hungry for a mid afternoon snack. The server Wil was so attentive, friendly and funny. He did a great job serving the 5 of us. We had the house made pickles which were soooooooooooo good, I drank the juice. The Hummus, Veg and Pita tray were good also, basic but fresh and tasty. Spicy noodle salad had the perfect kick and was delicious. Chicken fingers were real chicken not processed. The meals came in little to go boxes with labels which was prob due to Covid but in any event it all worked out and was a pleasant surprise.

Didn't stay there but attended a T Dance. Very crowded and everyone seemed to be having a good time.

My friends convinced me to kick off 2019 women's week at Boatslip's Tea Dance. The deck is large and welcoming, lines at the bar moved fast. Two 'gender neutral' stalls and two men's bathrooms (6/7 urinals) were the only restrooms. The dancefloor was full of standing, the DJ really could use an updated selection. Disco is dead.

We have stayed at the Boatslip for 8 years now, a big group of us from a university, and we always return. They are beautifully organized, they always welcome us, and they provide all the elements you can imagine to make us comfortable. They offer hot food in the am with great croissants and bread; they have new beds and furniture; and they have a great beach view. Sure, they could add some fruit in the morning, and their bathrooms are too small, but their efficiency, amazingly friendly desk staff, and welcoming attitude just keep us coming back. It's like coming home. I can't wait for the upcoming years!!

I have only frequented this place for the pool during the day and Tdance later on; I love these people so much; I have become friends with the regulars and even the Bulgarian men and women that return each season. They work soooooooooooooo hard and have strong ethics. Everyone is friendly and always makes you feel like someone special not just a customer.

We decided we'd position ourselves at Boatslip to enjoy drinks and watch the 2019 Carnival Parade. The bar staff is excellent and efficient and the drinks were generously sized. The crowd was friendly so a good place to be for a couple of hours.
