About this place Rainbow Cactus Company

The Rainbow Cactus is Virginia Beach's dedicated gay bar and effectively the city's only exclusively LGBTQ+ nightlife venue. Open since the 1990s, it relocated to 475 S Lynnhaven Rd and remains a welcoming neighborhood nightclub where locals and visitors gather for karaoke, drag shows, live music and dancing. Reviewers consistently describe it as a friendly, community-focused spot with attentive bar service and a laid-back crowd. Beyond drinks, the venue serves food and hosts regular entertainment, so it works as a place to settle in for the evening rather than a quick stop. It is open into the early hours most nights (typically closed Mondays), making it the go-to anchor for Virginia Beach's LGBTQ+ community. For visitors staying at the Oceanfront, it is a short drive inland to the Lynnhaven area. Check ahead for the current schedule of themed nights, drag performances and live music.

Im going to start off by saying I am a very very anxious person and social anxiety is a major struggle for me. Lately my girlfriend has been taking me out to places to try to help me and get better at my social skills. Well, the bartender we had tonight was amazing and made it a eaiser for me. It might have been weird I was talking through my girlfriend and checking with her every step but what he probably didn't know is that it's a major step for me that I was able to come up again and order with her. Normally I wouldn't really been able to, especially without a menu. Im also newer to drinking so i dont know many drinks or what i like but every drank we had, strong or sweet was amazing, even if he didnt agree with my redbull choices 😜. His Dr. Pepper drink was AMAZING. Him being understanding definitely made me feel heard and made me more comfortable. We definitely will be visiting here again. Another major notable thing he FIRST asked which I thought was really nice was that if we had any allergies. Which is fantastic for me because I can't have cinnamon. 😅

Very disappointing experience. Once the bar closed, our group was singled out and asked to leave while other patrons stayed inside under the explanation that they were “friends of the owner.” As the only Latinos there, the treatment felt discriminatory and unwelcoming. Rules should apply equally to everyone, regardless of who they know or what they look like.
